Comments Thread For: Thurman: It's A Beautiful Time To Be A Fighter And A Fight Fan

It's not the sacrifice he'd want to make again, but Keith Thurman couldn't be more pleased with the state of the game to which he returned following a near two-year absence. The unbeaten welterweight titlist was fond of the direction both his career and the sport were heading following a March 2017 title unification win over Danny Garcia, which aired live in primetime on free-to-air CBS. Financially, it pales in comparison to where boxing is at in present day.

The reverse is true. Pbc has completely stagnanted boxing and specifically their own fighters in a misguided attempt to make it nba like.

Which promoter doesn't (Canelo=Golden Boy=DAZN Crawford=Warren/Top Rank=ESPN Spence=PBC=Showtime/Fox)? They lock in fighters to exclusive promotional and network deals which prevents them from taking matches with fighters in competitive promotions and/or networks; fighters start calling each other out knowing that the other fighter is not scared to fight them, but has a contract that they can't breach unless they want to fight, basically, for free after they're sued. The sanctioning bodies don't make things any better in trying to create new belts in order to receive sanctioning fees from as many top level fighters as possible (shouts to IBF, 1 champ per division).

Pbc took the situation from semi bad to extreme pbc coward status.

You’re wasting your time and digital ink. Some “fans” just hate the fact that al haymon is in charge of PBC and PBC is the most visible boxing outfit to the American sports fan

I wonder if this is just PR talk or if Thurman really has got his mojo back?

Whatever, no VADA advanced testing could make this a very entertaining fight!

Than why is he selling? He failed at his first attempt with wadells money, now he is failing with the broadcaster investment. Now the ufc thinks that it's deep pockets will undue als attempt to monopolize boxing. It won't. Why would boxers settle for a salary or pittance more accurately. They're already broke enough at pbc with their begging selves.

I've watched boxing since the late 60s. This is the absolute worst time to be a fan. It used to be a popular sport, but it has marginalized itself. PPVs, in house fights, and champs only fighting twice a year. Blame who you want, but the best rarely fight the best. It's hard to rate today's fighters against champs from older generations who proved themselves time and time again against difficult styles.

You missed the part where Haymon will still have a stake in PBC and will still have agreements with fighters that fight under its banner; you're also overlooking the fact that UFC has a contract with ESPN which may lighten up ESPN to televising PBC fights on its platform at some point, as it has in the past. Have to agree with OldSkoolG, it's a waste explaining to "fans". Funny how the same methods Haymon was sued for by Golden Boy and Top Rank are being used now by the same two companies.

Always good to see someone on here that can talk about this stuff at a higher level. Also worth noting is that in the leaks of the possible sale would be that haymon would still be running the company much the same way that Ufc is still run by Dana white. But yes it’s clear that guy just had it out for haymon and I’m sure he will never admit as to why
