I agree with the first Ward-Kov fight...I personally thought Floyd won 7-5 against Castillo...or 6-6 or I could see 7-5 for Castillo but I did feel that one was much tighter than Ward-Kov 1.
True Floyd did get pretty picky as the A side in his money Mayweather days...I just still feel like I saw clear wins from him most of the time, and I think he definitely earned a lot of credibility in his younger days at the lower weights as well.
Dawson win was a good win in theory...just with Dawson coming all the way down to 168 from 175 it kind of puts an asterisk by it in a way for me...he certainly seemed drained and even rumors of Dawson getting KOed in sparring...whatever that's worth...he certainly seemed a shell of himself at 168 that night imo.
I definitely think Andre was a good tough smart fighter...and if he was allowed to get dirty at all then it was very hard to win clear rounds against him. And to be fair I like some good dirty boxing...I just think when you are doing it all the time as part of your strategy it should probably be penalized a bit.
Yeah it's strange to me in a way that Ward never really caught on like Floyd...probably because personality differences and 'mouth' as you said...because in a way it's like, if Mayweather became such a star, why couldn't Ward?
They were both similar enough from a marketing perspective...both had the 0...but yeah that's always a strange one to me how Mayweather was soooo successful in that way and Ward was not at all.
I just have to be true to what I see and I just never really saw Andre picking up clear rounds when he even stepped in with other good fighters like Bika etc...I watched a lot of his and Kov's fights especially when the first Kov-Ward fight was going to happen...to try and analyze everything and see who would win...and yeah even against Bika or Barrera I felt there were like 10 close rounds in each fight...my 2 cents.
I just never really saw the clear boxing separation like I did with a Floyd or Lara or GGG in a lot of their fights...the one fight that I feel Andre won cleanly and clearly with no controversy over a top fighter was Froch...and I had it 7-5...even the Kessler win I had Andre winning before the stoppage but some would argue he may have gotten DQd in a more neutral setting.
I do like guys who go on the road and fight and win and Andre never really did that ya know...just for me personally I saw a guy who always was the home fighter, was allowed to get a little rough as the home fighter, was hard to win clear rounds against as a result, and then as the home fighter he would get a heavy majority of the close rounds.
If he went to the UK and stopped Froch or something like that, I mean who could hate on that...but I just don't see the domination from Ward in most of his fights, just think if it was in a more neutral setting he would have some draws, losses, DQs...just my 2 cents.
But I guess we will agree to disagree on this one man...good chat, good to talk boxing on here.
