I noticed after the DAZN fight tonight, Cancio says he’ll probably fight his mandatory next and JoJo Diaz even mentioned that Cancio has that mandatory due.
This guy just won the title in February and retained it in an immediate rematch. Now he has a mandatory due.
Gervonta Davis won his version of the title in April of 2018 and hasn’t had a mandatory called.
Also, Cancio beat the guy (Machado) who beat the WBA “super” champion (Corrales).... all to win the WBA “regular” title. Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis beat a former WBA “regular” champion (who was out of the ring for 16 months) to win the WBA “super” title.
Has an alphabet title ever treated a fighter so poorly? Cancio was basically stripped of the title he’s owed and is being forced to put in the mandatory defenses like he still owns it. He should throw the WBA belt away and try for fights with Tevin Farmer or JoJo Diaz as they’re all on DAZN and all need name fighters to fight.
