I think most people still see it as the lineal title doe. Specifically since Oscar brought Ring. I think more people took critical issues with Ring over them loosening the requirements for acquiring the title more than Oscar buying Ring.

TBRB was literally created because The Ring was no longer neutral, nor accountable to its own rules (they once sanctioned a title fight involving the #4 fighter in their rings).
Idk that as many people think of TBRB as a replacement for Ring as people that see Ring as the lineal title.

But the point remains. The problem with "lineal belts" is there aren't lineal rankings that there isn't disagreement with often times.

And there are bigger problems with lineal that I've held since I heard of lineal is that there is no quality control with keeping it cuz you might beat the man who beat the man, but you can go on a George Foreman-like schedule after you win the "belt" & duck legit challengers. Lineal is kinda a dumb ass thing for this reason to me.

Places like Transnational boxing and Cyberzone had Pacquiao lineal after the Bradley fight, but when he (very) briefly retired he was stripped. So lineal status wasn't on the line for the Vargas or Horn fights.

I suppose that's the problem with starting a new lineal timeline. There has to be a consensus, but how can there be in every situation?

Fury won the lineal title by beating Vlad. He was out of the ring for 2 years and 7 months so he lost the lineal title. You can't keep it by doing nothing for years. Mayweather was the lineal champ and he retired. Crawford is not the lineal champ. No welterweight is right now. Thurman, Spence, Pacquiao and Crawford all have a piece of the title and an equal claim. We may not have an undisputed welterweight champ for many years. Not surprising. All the weight classes we have and none of them have only one champion.

Lineal is highly overrated. Ring had Canelo lineal because he beat Cotto, the pretend middleweight champ at a catchweight of 155. Most people considered GGG the real middleweight champ because of all the work he had done at 160. Spinks was Ring's lineal champ but everybody knew Tyson was the real champ. When they did fight Tyson knocked him out in one minute of the first round.

This is the bottom line for me. The definition for "champion" is usually something like, "a person who has defeated all opponents in a competition or series of competitions." Boxing simply isn't structured that way...unlike any other major sport I can think of. Even college football, which uses an unsatisfying system for many, DOES have a system.

Yes it is a dumb ass thing and Fry is a perfect example. Wlad had become lineal by beating everybody with any claim to the title. Fury beat Wlad so I considered him lineal. Then he did nothing and fought nobody of worth until over three years when he finally fought Wilder. He still calls himself the lineal heavyweight champ but he lost it by not defending it for more than three years.

You are right. It is almost impossible for the best boxer in any weight class to gather up all 4 major belts with boxers only fighting twice a year and all the network feuds.

Do you guys remember who Wladimir beat to become lineal champion? If you do, you probably don't care that Fury is lineal champion. Means nothing.......
