Reflections on Joshua's standing right now...

I've seen him derided as a "hype job" since he lost.

While he hasn't exactly faced a murderer's row, he's only had 23 fights... and that includes facing decent, top 10 comp including:

    Povetski (albeit an old version)
Wlad (albeit an old version with ring rust)
    Parker

The guy's been a pro for less than six years, only had 40 amateur fights, and was able to unify three of the belts, as well as building up a decent record against okay competition. It's not as if he was untested and got "found out" against Ruiz.. we saw all those flaws before, and he can't be all "hype" considering everything he did.

He's just a young kid, and still a dish. He made a mistake. **** happens. The fight wasn't as bad as I thought when I saw it again... he actually timed that uppercut nicely, and, while I couldn't believe he went "gung ho", as the lad said, he's used to people being KTFO when he hits them.

What was most alarming was how he's got into a "superstar" mindset. When the referee asked him to come forward, he had the look of a man who is used to having everything his own way, and that's not a good sign.

It really is a lesson in mindset, too... a man going to the ring wit h everything vs. a man going to the ring with everything to gain.

I think people overlook what a dish AJ is... that plays a factor.

He is not a 20 year Devin Haney tbf

Why isn't Tyson Fury looked at as young fighter he is about the same age and has only few more professional fights

Maybe because Tyson has been a pro fighter for almost five years longer*, and already had 21 pro bouts before Joshua debuted?

Look, I'm not saying AJ doesn't have his faults, but for 23 pro bouts he's done a Hell of a lot. I'm just amazed at the polemic... someone's either a world beater or a hype job bum.

        * Exactly 4 years, 10 months.

Boxing scene has been suspect for years.

The fact that there are are so many AJ nutriders even though he has almost zero boxing ability is pretty telling.

No idea why this place attracts so many ****** lol

I'm not a big fan of this "all Brits" talk, generalising does no one any good.

But AJ did have a crossover appeal... I'd see women with no interest in boxing posting on Facebook after his fights.

Joshua will be 30 by the time the Ruiz rematch happens.

Several down low ****s posted on why boxers that are built like Andy Ruiz being HW champion of the world is bad for the sport & why dudes w/ the physique of Joshua just screams world champion

This isnt WWE where the most roided up actors like Triple H would be scripted to win titles just because they're juiced up the most & are considered physical specimen in their own fake created world.

His resume is the best in the division. Even if he gets a mental block and is never the same, still doesn't negate what he did and that he was a legit #1 in the div for a couple years.

Yea, he got disgustingly hyped. But, he still earned his spot and he did it legit.

I think it’s fair for us all to allow him to have the rematch before judging properly. A lot of people jump on the hype train and equally people love to jump on people after one loss too. Both can be seen on this forum a much as anything. The hype train for fury at the moment is arguably worse than anybody who was with AJ.

But your right with your statistics, he is relatively young for a heavyweight, never had a big amateur background and has had multiple high level fights compared to those ranked high around him. Losses aren’t uncommon at heavyweight and let’s see in November ish time how the rematch goes. I could still argue he is rank 1 in the world and had a bad night at this stage.
