Id rather see the Margirito fight by far, but taking Spinks is a smart move, because its a belt in ANOTHER division, and he should beat him relativily easily.
      Take the Tony fight Floyd.
      Dont dissapoint.

          Margarito

true but if he fights spinks first he can possible get a fifth belt

while margarito takes on a name such as collazo to solidify his worth as many fans are requesting

then mayweather can take on margarito

besides margarito has had only 1 short round this year

i'd much rather see him at his best early next year

Which is exactly what I was implying.

So I don't know what the point of that was...

hey.. do yall remember Kevin Iole... one of the few reporters to give Mayweather credit in the past couple months?:

Mayweather's not getting off this easy
              by Kevin Iole

              LAS VEGAS — Shane Mosley?

              OK.

              Winky Wright?

              OK.

              Ricky Hatton?

              OK, again.

              But Cory Spinks? No way.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported earlier this week that Cory Spinks is closing in on a deal to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.

If that is true, all I can say is: Aaaaaargh.

Mayweather, boxing’s erstwhile pound-for-pound king, has been getting ripped in many corners for his seeming unwillingness to fight Antonio Margarito.

Now, I’ve never bought that. But if Mayweather actually goes ahead and signs to fight Spinks, perhaps the most sleep-inducing fighter to watch this side of John Ruiz, with an $8 million offer on the table to fight Margarito, then there’s no other way to put it: He’s running.

I’m not going to lambaste Mayweather if he signs to fight Mosley on Nov. 4, for that’s a fight that not only is the kind of competitive one that his critics have alleged he was ducking, but it’s also one that would do big pay-per-view numbers and would be good for the sport.

And I won’t jump on him if he opts to bypass Margarito to take on Wright. Or Hatton, for that matter.

              But Cory Spinks? Puh-leeeeeeaze.

There’s still plenty of time for Mayweather to do thing right thing, which isn’t necessarily fighting Antonio Margarito on Nov. 4.

Oh, sure, I’d love to see it, since the legend of Margarito’s greatness seems to swell in proportion to Mayweather’s delaying.

I’d accept Margarito or Mosley or Wright or Hatton or Miguel Cotto or one of a number of men as Mayweather’s Nov. 4 opponent.

But Cory Spinks? Not now, not in November, not in February and, hopefully, not ever.

It would be a lame -- a weak, lame, cowardly attempt – to gain another world title.

The guy can’t be that transparent.

              Can he?

Mayweather can go for a 5th "belt" but he hasn't been champ at any weight since he left 135.

                  LWW champion - Hatton/vacant
                  WW Champion - Baldomir
LMW champion - up for grabs, you could argue that Spinks has it, but Mosley is possibly the best fighter currently at 154.
