The solid numbers from ESPN were helped in large part to the UFC 238 prelims taking place right before it. UFC 238 prelims averaged 964,000 viewers and drew a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demo (3rd best on canle for the day).

Why can't ESPN do better numbers than even HBO did consistently? I understand that the headliner matters, and fights like Pulev vs whoever aren't going to do great. Oscar Valdez should be getting close to a million viewers though.

Why can't ESPN do better numbers than even HBO did consistently? I understand that the headliner matters, and fights like Pulev vs whoever aren't going to do great. Oscar Valdez should be getting close to a million viewers though.

1. These numbers are somewhat consistent with HBO numbers their last 2 years

2. They're putting most of the good fights on the app

3. They don't have the star power. Crawford & Lomachenko get good ratings on ESPN.

I've seen worse & if Valdez fought a name the ratings would be higher.
