It’s the heavyweight division. Not the feather. Dudes punch hard. He lost cause he got hit by a heavyweight punch. I’m not a boxer but I’m assuming every boxer knows the risks when they step into the box. Saying boxers get concussions is like saying chefs smell like food. Comes with the territory

      Exactly.
Very important discussion to be having but has F all to do with the Joshua fight. Going the way it did. Why they feel the need to concoct fake excuses I don’t know.
Now after round three Joshua was in a mess and perhaps his head was a bit scrambled. But that is extremely hard to measure. Maybe they should get the doctors up more often.
He had the same against Klitschko as well - he looked drunk for a few rounds after being knocked down. Nobody mentions that though because he came back and won.

Boxing is a dangerous sport and I'm not a fan of heavy sparring.

Puts using PEDs into the direct perspective too imo. This isn't running or bicycle riding; people die after getting smashed in the skull. Boxers using PEDs should be criminally prosecuted. That will have a more noticeable effect than 6mth/2yr/5yr bans!

Its the punches you do not see coming.

AJ was on top attacking Dillion Whyte in the 2nd Round when he got caught by a left. AJ did not even know he had been hit at first until his legs wobbled. Luckily it was only a short left. AJ had just knocked down Ruiz and stepped in and hit him with two more good shots, and then a couple more. What he was not expecting and did not see Ruiz counter him high on the temple with a left hook. Against Wladimir Klitschko he had early knocked WK down, but seemed to run out of energy and then got caught, but he did see it coming and was able to regain his stamina. AJ took Povetkins punches well as he saw them coming, but he was getting caught by a shorter faster fighter, AJ thus must learn to fight tall against small fighters, he must also take his time and wear them down, maybe just with the jab. When he gets them hurt he needs to be careful as this is when he was caught out by Ruiz and Whyte. What is worrying is not his chin but his stamina, why he loses all his strength he has a touch of the David Price in this respect, maybe its nerves and Adrenalin kicking in.

Joshua became complacent after the Jarrell Miller drug test fiasco. Miller embarrassed Joshua at multiple press conferences which gave Joshua the edge he needed to take the fight serious. Once Miller was out of the equation I think AJ unconsciously overlooked Ruiz and failed to take him seriously because Ruiz doesn’t look like he trains for anything. When a champion allows another fighter to hold all of his belts for pictures, in my opinion, it means he’s over confident. Joshua will get his shyt together for the rematch because he has to.

You can’t have watched that fight and thought AJ looked normal? He was a shadow of his usual self even before Rd 3. Something was up. This writer knows it else the article wouldn’t have been written.

I'm not sure there is an excuse angle here - Joshua got a concussion because Ruiz gave him one ! Just like Khan got a concussion because Canelo gave him one (albeit a more dramatic and severe one) - its not an excuse for why Joshua lost any more than its an excuse for why Khan lost - its the reason they lost (winner gave them a concussion they couldn't recover from).

Ruiz got a concussion too, but it was less severe than Joshua's and he got up and recovered, whereas Joshua got up but didn't recover.

The boxing and concussion discussion is an uncomfortable topic/read as its all about temporary and permanent brain damage that happens to fighters in the ring. Its not something that's going to go away, its the nature of the sport.

AJ didn't look right from the start. His form didn't look as ripped as usual, and the look on his face from the get-go, Just didn't look right.

At the beginning of the 3rd round, AJ was doing what he does, and that's KO people. He got careless after the Ruiz KD though.

He didn't take into account that Ruiz has a great chin and very fast hands.

Even after the KD of Ruiz, AJ landed another good hard straight right on Ruiz. Again, doing what AJ does.

THAT'S when AJ threw caution to the wind, and Ruiz caught him high on the head and concussed him.

AJ was threw from that point on.

                      All this talk in nonsense.

Powers that be just need to let AJ rest and take timeouts whenever he feels like it. He would still be the champ if the fight happened in UK. A couple of timeouts is all he needed.
