Could be wrong, but the opponent that Golovkin didnt want to face on short notice was Derevyanchenko and not Saunders.

Saunders Vs Golovkin was at one point talked about for june 2017. right after the jacobs fight. Golden Boy Promotions then said they wouldnt have enough time to promote a Canelo fight in september and if Golovkin went through with the Saunders fight, it would put the Saunders fight in jeopardy. So they decided to fight Canelo in september.

1) Golovkin ducked Saunders with an OBVIOUS $1.5m low-ball, and then quickly ran off to fight Dominic Wade..... with NO COUNTER-OFFER, that was a take-it-or-leave-it lowball

oh, immediately after that fight, Saunders watched Kell Brook make $4-5m+

that is a absolute 100% duck

2) Saunders signed to fight Golovkin in Kazakhstan, but Golovkin understandably fought Canelo

3) the very second Saunders said he would be available in June, there was no other fight to make..... that was an OBVIOUS no-brainer

Rankings are overrated for the most part. I attended the Rolls/Nicholson fight in 2017. He is a club fighter but has some skills. Obviously he is not on the same level as Golovkin. A four round stoppage wth some success is not an embarrassment for Rolls. GGG stopped Vanes M. in two rounds. Many were complaining that Rolls got this fight. Even if GGG fought a " name ", it would have been a low risk guy anyway. Glad Rolls got a 300 grand payday.

I’m Canadian and I didn’t even know Rolls. I have mixed feelings about our boxing. We can build local stars and they are supported and can make money at home. But it’s gonna take someone really good that his managers are willing to make him travel and get the experience to be a real champion. Being protected makes money for fighters that aren’t great but it doesn’t help fighters that could truly be great. But yes I think Rolls represented well right up until the end. He tried, wasent timid. Fought back when hurt. Tried to get up. 24rnds against Canelo and he couldn’t really hurt him, shows the levels to this sport. Mike Tyson can’t KO a Holyfield.

Virtually every former champ took an easy comeback fight before rematching the tough loss fighter. It's actually more like a stay busy fight, especially if the rematch was pretty far down the road or unconfirmed.

that was 9 months ago, he had plenty of time for a comeback fight, that excuse should not be used 9 months later... unless he was on the hospital recovering for 5 or 6 months...

He did get ****** up pretty good. He also changed trainers, so they probably worked on new strategies, addressed deficiencies, ect.
