A guy who always looks for the best challenges. Moved up 3 divisions in 12 fights. Was rated the #1 in each division he fought by all the rating systems(The Ring, TBRB, ESPN, etc..). Fights through adversity from horrible injuries. High work rate and pressure style that he keeps up for 12 rounds.

Their seems only reason some hate him.

I think he's very overrated, I've watched the sport long enough that I can say that now.

He has plenty of quality wins. He took the zeroes off Rusell Jr, Walters, and Rigondeaux. He's beaten 8 former champions in his 14 fights. Fastest to win 1, 2, and 3 divisional titles. Vasiliy Lomachenko is the greatest of all-time.

No. It was early in his pro career. The fact will always be there, but trying to use that against him at his current stage is just reaching.

Yeah he does receive some hype. Being named #1 P4P by a couple sources, with only 14 professional fights is going to generate some controversy. Also, many fight fans are loyal to a fault and can be publicly bias or sometimes obnoxious in their assessments. This has also led to some Lomachenko backlash and hype-job rhetoric.

The fact that he still gets mentioned in the P4P conversation by major boxing affiliations, including some former champions, given the loss to Salido and his debatable resume, suggests the hype is justified or deserved. Today, anything can be argued or debated, given the public's access to stories, free speech, and social media.

It's my su****ion that the loss to Salido doesn't carry as much weight as it could due to the context, as well as the content of the fight, meriting consideration. Loma had a long and stellar amateur career and already had some hype entering the pro ranks, whilst publicly calling for a title fight in his very first couple professional bouts. Even though he had the amateur experience and some hype, he was still green to a seasoned, rough professional like Salido.
Loma learned how professional boxing worked in that fight, and from that fight on, conducted himself differently in the ring. In that 2nd pro fight, he never once motioned or said anything to the ref about low blows, headbutts, elbows, or anything. Nor did his corner. After that education, Loma and his corner adopted a completely different demeanor and approach to professional boxing. In any fight post-Salido, you see him dishing out some of the dirty stuff Salido taught him, as well as communicating with the refs throughout fights. It's a night and day phenomenon, noticeable on film and apparently to boxing aficionados that rate boxing and form rankings.
So, given the context and content of that fight, taking an L in a title bout, being just the 2nd fight of his career, it doesn't carry the same weight as it would for a journeyman type, taking a loss against other newbies with less than 5 fights, just starting their pro career.

Elite, future HOF’er. Probably wouldn’t fare as well in another era but that applies to a lot cats.

Floyd would have been too much for him, especially with that reach. Loma is good, but not Floyd good, and not Pacquaio good. One level down from that.
