  • Comments Thread For: Valdez: Sanchez Is Young, Hungry, Wants My Title In Worst Way

For the fourth time in less than three years, Oscar Valdez finds himself in a title fight versus an opponent who doesn't know what it feels like to lose. Of course, the same can be said of the undefeated featherweight titlist whom next defends his featherweight title versus Albuquerque's Jason Sanchez (14-0, 7KOs). But as he enters every fight expecting to leave the same way, the 28 year old from Nogales, Mexico is also well aware of the target he has on his back every time he steps into the ring.

Guess you've never heard of Gary Russell Jr. Don't blame you if you forgot who he is but he is the guy that appears once a year and fights nobodies.

Is Valdez to blame that he's defending his title to a C class fighter? Could he have said "No, I want to fight the best"? I mean what do we want him to say. "Sanchez has beaten nobody. His only significant win is against Rivera. I'll make easy work on him." Valdez knows he's gotta sell Sanchez as a potential dangerous opponent but his record is not convincing anyone that this will be a tough fight for Valdez. Since they pulled the Vences and Bell fight, this card is unappealing.

Valdez has taken on tougher opponents than the other title holders and wants more. Grj and LSC are going to stay way back in the shadows as long as Valdez is looking for opponents. I'm not saying Sanchez is easy by any means only, if it is suppose to be another tune up well, if anyone deserves a break it's Valdez. He earned it. Toughest division in boxing today and Valdez is best in that division. Hands down! Any bets? I'll give dollars to donuts in that wager...

I'm guessing but it appears TR wants a big fight with Valdez vs Frampton or Warrington by December. As long as warrington takes care of business and/or Frampton gets his tune up which will be to justfy his top ranking. I'm a big Valdez fan and if Warrington keeps up his attacking relentless workload as he carried over from the two fights he had last year, I'm going to nervously anticipate that matchup. When that fight gets billed all I'm gonna say is "WOW"! Check my pacemaker and hope they have 2 ambulances close to ringside.

Valdez didn’t look too good in his last fight which is likely from ring rust so I expect to see a much more advance version of Valdez under the Eddie Reynoso!

If Valdez can include the head movement and counter punching ala Canelo or similar the he’s gonna be a big problem for anyone at 126!
