    Rematch Clauses in Contracts

Do y’all like them or not? Should they be banned in contracts? Are they really necessary?

I’ve never been a fan of rematch clauses in contracts. To me they were always a way for certain fighters to try and monopolies and protect their belts and spot at the top.

My belief has always been if a certain fighter beats an established champ, so be it. Let that established champ work his way back to the top. If he’s really “that” good he will get his shot again.

To me rematch clauses are for the weak minded fighter.

I don't see any issues with them. That's what boxing has become, before you can beat the champion and your word would be your honour of a rematch, now we have managers/promoters/adviser who changed all of that, which means you have to protect yourself with a contract.

So Joshua lost his belts to a voluntary defence, if he didn't have a rematch contract he would not have a chance to win them back, he gave a non-mandatory Ruiz a chance, back in those days he wouldn't need to "Exercise" anything to get a rematch.

I have no problems with them, they are to protect fighters. You never know what is going to happen in a fight and the champion might get jobbed. We saw what happened with Pacquiao vs Bradley I. What if a fighter were to get jobbed like that and the other fighter refused to fight them again? Then you have to go whining to that sanctioning org for a rematch and they may not oblige

I think they're important. Guys sometimes (read: often) get robbed and it gives the champ a chance to prove whether he's the man or not. Also, without them, you get guys kidnapping belts, finding ways to remain champ for years without doing anything.

I think they are necessary. For instance especially the way promoters don’t work together Joshua would never get a chance to win those belts back once haymon got a hold of them.

So what if it was a volunteered shot that a certain fighter got and won.

If a fighter is offered a volunteered shot at the title and wins. He should be mandated to rematch that guy immediately?

**** no. Obviously that champ wasn’t as good as everyone thought.

Rematch clauses are for ***** and weak minded fighters.

In that case, public, media, and sanctioning body outcry that would put pressure on the new champ for a rematch or if not he’d just be a non respected lame duck champion.

**** rematch clauses in contracts. They are not necessary under any circumstances.

I dont mind them. Especially this week. Take that fight for example seeing as its still so fresh. Theres alot of talk about Joshua's physical or mental health in the days leading up to this fight, a rematch settles all this talk. If Joshua is just a hype job and Ruiz really does just have this hypejobs number then we will see Ruiz smashing joshua again and to do it twice leaves no bull**** to cloud minds. It can maybe seem a bit mean that the new champ cant go straight in the direction he wants but this is prize fighting and the champs are usually in the power position when a contract is drawn and they want a safety gate. They are all at it, just one of them things.

If Ruiz does Joshua over again then you can be certain that HE will be putting in a rematch clause against who ever hes facing. So it may seem a bit mean on Ruiz but next time it will be his tool to use as champion.
