Lara has zero claim, and his fanboys who say G avoided him are just as ignorant. Yes, most believed that G would crush Alvarez, but just as Hagler didn't crush semi-retired Ray, a 36 year old G couldn't 'officially' get the deserved decision in the first bout. Considering how close it was...what would a 33 yr old G done to Alvarez? None of the big names were eager to fight G when it would have been most timely, but given the business of boxing it is understandable. And 154-168 was only a mantra to drum up attention....when he started the string of MW defenses, there was no reason to 1. go down to 154 for anything not worth a ton of money 2. go to 168 for anything not worth a ton of money. Chavez Jr backed out on him, Froch turned him down for the only lucrative SMW bouts. Ward at 168?? How much money did Kovalev earn fighting Ward? There is your answer for how enticing that bout would be for G.
Not getting in to deep on the GGG saga, but for the record, there was an article published on this very sight where Loefeller said not enough money to in a Ward fight.... so Ward to much of a risk..

GGG has horribly mis-managed his career. He should have fought Sergiy.....but we are talking about Canelo ducking. It happened.

Here is the reality of Golovkin's legacy. If he had been awarded the victory in the first Canelo fight. People would move on to the next shiny object in the middleweight division soon after GGG's retirement and he would be soon forgotten.

Golovkin's legacy will not be defined by his resume because other than fights with Jacobs and Alvarez it is rather thin, but by the fact that the first Canelo fight was scored a draw and Adelaide Byrd muddied the waters with her off the mark scoring. His legacy will also be dogged by his penchant for fighting weak opposition at every opportunity -- Rolls being the latest example.

Golovkin was and is a good fighter and will be a sure-fire Hall of Famer, but he is not the second coming of Marvin Hagler or an all-time great. He is as much product of the social media and HBO hype machine as anything else.

Nah, he's in his prime and he'll only get faster and better and add to that jaw dropping resume. Fux sake, of course his star has come and gone. Geez.

Many experts on record say Canelo hurts GGg in a 3rd fight.

Derevyanchenko has come out and defended Golovkin.

Golovkin fought and beat former title holders, title holders, the ONLY fighter to get a draw in a den of snakes where one cannot secure a decision against the house fighter.

Geale, Rubio, Murray, Monroe Jr, Lemieux, Wade, Brook, Jacobs all nobodies? when GGG was pummeling all comers, Charlo and Andrade were down at 154.

Amateur Record: 345-5 (might be 8 losses)

Record of 19-1-1 (18 KOs) in world title fights.
Record of 5-1-1 (4 KOs) against former, current, and future world champions:
Won against Kassim Ouma, Daniel Geale, David Lemieux, Kell Brook, and Daniel Jacobs.
    Drew against Saul Alvarez.

WBA Super World Middleweight Title (October 2010-present; 19 defences)
IBF World Middleweight Title (October 2015-present; 4 defences)
WBC World Middleweight Title (May 2016-present; 4 defences)

    Great post.

I did not read the article the moment I saw "Cliff Rold".
