I think the ref should get a lot of credit as Joshua put him in an awkward situation. Joshua spit his mouthguard out before the ref started the count at 4 (not sure ref saw it), then after he got up, Joshua turned away from the ref at 8 and walked towards the ropes. The ref could only shout turn around. turn around, then after the 10 count expired, Joshua moved off the ropes just before the ref asked him if he was able to continue, realised his legs weren't steady enough to survive a 'can you continue' test, then moved back to the ropes just as the referee asked him if he wanted to go on.

The ref could have insisted on an answer, which would have given Joshua 20+ seconds total to have got his legs back, but the referee avoided that controversy by stopping it before Joshua had a chance to potentially game the system to continue by buying time (then there would have been time required to put the mouthpiece back in etc).

Ref did a great job under a huge amount of pressure.

Oh, I definitely agree, which is why I'm not upset about the stoppage at all. I just don't like stoppages with fighters defending and who are on their feet. I didn't even like the stoppage AJ had against Klitshcko. He was clearly on his feet parrying shots and the ref waived it off.

I kept watching it over and over, he said he wanted to continue, his tired body hung on the ropes. joshua was definitely going down for a third and maybe a career changing time. but to give up those belts like that, wow. i was stunned. dude lost all those straps. long flight home for him and his team.

You mean grab, drop all their weight on other boxer, wait for ref. To break it up then rinse and repeat. IMO that’s cheating and by the time points start coming out for the damage is done. No one can box 12 rounds with additional 230++ pounds on them...

Yup, I heard this for about 5-6weeks before AJ. When the time comes Ruiz beats Wilder with a liver shot.

Just stop it. There was only a few people on here that even gave Ruiz a chance and I was one of them. A hot streak doesn't last long in boxing. And i think that wave will end when he faces Deontay. You can remember this post.

Deontay will be reeling around like he did against Ortiz, only Ruiz isnt old and doesn't have high blood pressure. The last fat guy boxed Wilders head off, this one lays him out.

But Wilder has a much shakier chin than Ruiz. This is a guy who needed the doctor against a sick old man, who was floored several times by Sconiers.He might win, he might not, we haven't seen Wilder fight a young puncher.
