I think Ruiz was not hurt at all. He was dropped but not hurt. Joshua like some naive novice thought Ruiz was hurt and tried to finish him desperately. That was start of his nightmare.Comment

Joshua looked uncomfortable from the opening bell. Bad chin + bad defense + bad gas tank = disaster. He doesn't know what to do when hurt.
All those muscles and he couldn't keep his hands up past the 4th round. If he doesnt make some serious changes, Ruiz beats him again. Ruiz showed he could take his power and knew AJ couldn't take his.
All that aside I think Ruiz has his number.Comment

To me, Joshua looked the same as usual. Ruiz simply had a VERY GOOD 15wk camp (1 less than Holyfield had for Tyson) that covered ALL bases like a "camp" should.... Under Ruizs carby flab body, he had a VERY WELL conditioned fighting machine that prepared distinctly to disassemble that particular model robot.... Joshua knew very well that guys like Ray Leonard, Lennox and others didn't agree with his assessment to stay in the UK (in his docking unit) like a pampered kid...
Lennox's criticisms alone should have had Joshua aiming for success over here. And I think he did aim for it by picking the pudgiest two opponents he could find to walk over. He looked & moved like the same ole' Joshua, except for the crouching forward to accommodate the shorter Ruiz. NEVER should he have done that - thats one of the cardinal sins in boxing....he most likely couldve succeeded by 'fighting tall' and settling for a boring debut. But as it stands, it was exciting as hell with Ruizs fast twitch muscles discombobulating the muscle head from rnd 3 on and up.... Btw, I gotta give props for Joshs classy responses, he simply was not good enough - at this particular time

Say what you will about Joshua but his sportsmanship is A1. He made no excuses. That’s championship behavior right there.Comment

Funnily enough I think Wilder did have an impact on this fight but not in the obvious way.
Wilder just blasted out Br**. We can all agree on that.
So AJ was under pressure to put on an impressive performance. I think even the most fervent AJ haters can agree on that.
So when he floored Ruiz in the third he saw an opportunity to make a statement and rushed in to finish. Bad judgement. He didn't take a good enough look at Ruiz, which he normally does before committing and he got caught.
No disrespect to Ruiz who has fast hard hands and got caught by some monster shots and walked through them. The guy is desert tough. He got little respect before the fight but has made his point. Happy for him.
And respect to AJ for his sportsmanship. It would be nice if some of the loud mouthed vulgarians on there showed the same class.Comment

I said that before the fight because Wilder can take risks when he hurts fighters (he has a good chin) and Joshua can't afford to take risks.
Also it is 100% true that AJ has looked like he struggled with all shorter fighters.
It's also true that people are over-reacting to the AJ loss. Wait until the next fight - then over-react
Boxing isn't about unbeaten records. Anyone with an unbeaten record hasn't fought anyone.
