Boxing is 90% mental and heart

After what happened on Saturday, it seems everyone has written Josh off and it’s pretty sad. There was a time I never thought Fury would amount to **** in the heavyweight division, especially after McDermott destroyed him but look at where he’s now. The same Fury who used to be too lazy to keep his guard up and who used to be rocked by everyone is now an acclaimed scientist in the ring and the most skilled heavyweight.

How did Fury get there? He changed his boxing style and developed an uncanny way to mentally unsettle his opponents before/during bouts. And it worked perfectly against Wlad and Wilder.

Josh lost that fight not because he couldn’t beat Ruiz, he just wasn’t mentally prepared for what to expect and the pressure of fitting into the glam and glitz of America got to him. Coupled with trying to replicate what Wilder did. I heard from reliable sources that he was partying and ****ing in Miami. And when he got to New York, he didn’t acclimate properly with the weather, environment and Time Zone change (America is a continent). Then you had all kinds of celebrities trying to get to know/meet him. He was just overwhelmed by everything and the mental collapse happened in the ring.

Before the fight started, you could tell he didn’t want to be there from the way he was acting and he was already tired. He probably thought one or two big shots would be enough to take Ruiz out and perhaps that’s the reason why he never fought behind his jab. However, when he caught Ruiz with that clean uppercut and left hook. Dropped him. Rushed forward and landed a few big shots that caught Ruiz flush on the chin and Ruiz stood there without being hurt, he lost it.

Don’t write the big fighting machine off, he’ll be back. And when he comes back, he’ll clean up the whole division in vengeance. Sometimes you just have to fall to get to the next level.

No. That's what movies taught you.
The mental game is very important but you become a boxer by repeating the same patterns over, and over, and over, until it's in your muscle memory. That's almost half it it. The other half is your stamina, which you put endless hours into.
And, when you have a close fight, heart can often separate the two.

You try brining your "heart" into a ring with anyone, ANYONE, who trains regularly and no matter what kinda heart they have, they're going to kick your ass all over the place.
