The rules have changed a lot too. 150 years ago were the London prize ring rules. Bare fist boixng was very brutal, fights were often squedualed for 114 rounds. Rounds only ended when 1 fighter was knocked down - wrestling holds were permitted.
Weight divisions were not introduced until the 17th century.
Near the end of the 1800's, the Marquis of queensberry rules were made in england. Gloves were introduced, rounds became a standard 3 minutes and there was 1 minute rest between rounds. Fights could be scheduald for up to 45 rounds. There was no neutral corner rule during knockdowns - this was introduced after Dempsey vs Willard in 1919. Modern boxing rules are still based on the Marquis of Queensberry rules from the late 1800's.Comment
