No heavyweight unification? I blame the 90s

I think everyone can agree the top heavyweights in the 1990s were Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Rid**** Bowe, Mike Tyson, George Foreman and Michael Moorer (Moorer might be a stretch for some but he does have the championships while others who might make this list don’t)

Tyson-Holyfield 1 was billed as “finally” because it happened so long after it was wanted by the public.

Lewis-Tyson happened in 2002, way after it’s expiration date.

Tyson never fought Bowe, Foreman or Moorer.

Lewis and Holyfield didn’t fight until the end of the decade. Lewis never fought Foreman, Bowe or Moorer.

George Foreman and Michael Moorer fought each other and Holyfield but never fought lewis, tyson or Bowe.

Bowe fought Holyfield and no one else on the list.

In fact, Holyfield is the only name on the list who fought everyone else mentioned.

Is this ducking or just the boxing business? I’ll let you tell me.

Its all bizzniss now, the MayPac fight set the precedent for boxers to try to maximize their bank with little to no risk.

Nobody was lining up to fight Lewis and most only did when they were out of choices and titles.

Pretty crazy that Vitali took that fight with Lewis on two weeks notice. Nobody would do something like that now- at least not at the top of the heap.

Was easier to unify in the 90s when you only needed three belts. There was also more pressure to unify because the public expected it. After 20 years of no undisputed champion, people aren't as adamant as they used to be.

That’s what guys who want to be a champion do. I just don’t get this situation now, it’s like nobody wants to be undisputed champion. Even Ortiz had a golden opportunity to fight for 3 belts for considerably more money than he’s ever seen, and he turned it down...and there were people on here supporting his decision, saying it was a low ball etc. If you’re not up for a shot at 3 belts and 5-7mil, then wtf are you in the sport for?

The 90's were ******ed with the amount of times titles changed hands.

Same with the WBA in the 80's at heavyweight

He was already in camp and I believe was fighting on the same card.It was Lewis who took the risk because he was out of shape and took vitality on when he was scheduled to fight a bum.
