Fury probably is the better boxer. He has very good boxing skills. Fury occupies a fairly unique place in boxing and one that is only possible in the HW division. He fights like a smaller, craftier, skilled guy - good defense, faster hands, etc. He's good but he's not the best at that but here's the rub - he doesn't have to be considering his height/weight/reach allow him to physically beat that type of HWs. Against the larger or more explosive guys he doesn't have the same power but generally has better boxing skills. That kind of combo can't exist anywhere else but in the HW division.

However, he may not be the better fighter. His chin is suspect, having been down on a number of occasions. His power is mediocre at best. His fighting style is one that doesn't lend itself to action by either him or his opponent which will lead to many close decisions. And as he grows older and loses a bit of that hand speed, he'll become more and more vulnerable whereas power doesn't tend to drop on fighters nearly as fast.

Of course, his upcoming fight against Tom Whatshisname isn't going to do anything to further anyone's already-established opinion of Fury. People are giving Wilder crap about fighting Ortiz but Ortiz looks like Ali, Foreman and Tyson rolled into one compared to Tom Whogivesa***whathisnameis.

But boy was he wrong - Fury took Wilder to school. Fury had the balls to take on Wilder after 2 years self-destruction and 2 warmup fights against Burger King cashiers.

I know, Wilder's fanbois are about to start screaming that Fury almost died in that last round and got KD'd cold twice. Yes, but that doesn't take away the fact that Wilder got schooled for 11 rounds pretty badly. No wonder the immediate rematch didn't happen - Wilder realized that Fury would only get better from that point on. Now AJ is not even opening his mouth about Fury anymore. He knows Wilder is a riskier fight in terms of getting KO'd but he thinks he would be able to outbox him and dodge the windmill, whereas Fury would make a circus clown out of him.
AJ never ducked Fury. He offered him a fight many times but Fury declined. Fury avoided the Wilder rematch. Look who the great boxer Fury is fighting next. A guy none of us ever heard of. A complete cherry pick. What is that supposed to prove. He is a good boxer with an average chin and average power. I think Wilder or AJ would K him if he fights them.

Fury loses to AJ because of fury chin and the fact that AJ is a technically sound boxer with high boxing iq from ametuer background with hella power. Now if wilder just learns to work the body first plus jab more then go head hunting hell beat fury in a rematch.

He is a better boxer.....but that's not everything as Wilder proved. Either can knock him the F out at any time.
