Call him Mexican American, call him Chicano, call him a torta but Mexican he is not. He was born in the almighty ******* cesspool of California. You can’t call whisky Scotch if not made in Scotland or sparkling wine Champagne if not made in the Champagne region of France. He’s as bootleg a Mexican as fishnets De La Hoya, the emperor of all the bootleg California cholos.

He must have dual citizenship since he faught for Mexico in the Olympics, thus his classification and recognition as a Mexican Heavywegith(without the American). They used to tease him all the time and call him Pocho but he said he fought for Mexico... making him more Mexican than alot of his detractors.Call him Mexican American, call him Chicano, call him a torta but Mexican he is not. Imagine that. So Canadians that fought for Haiti suddenly become Haitians? Or the 37 Americans born on US soil who fought for other countries in the 2018 Winter Olympics are no longer Americans? Wow you’re dumber than I thought. No duh. Of course but represents Mexican people because of his heritage, just like Oscar de La Hoya waved the Mexican flag when he won the Gold Medal, he´s also American. Nationality is one thing, ethnicity-race another.Comment

Mexican-American but represents Mexican people so it doesn´t matter. Oscar de La Hoya waved the Mexican flag when he won the Gold Medal, that doesn´t make him less American, just showing his heritage. Black Americans are American but you can´t call them Gringos or Anglos, it´s similar with Hispanics.Comment

That's the thing, he is just as much Mexican as he is American. If anything he is more "Mexican" because of culture and his own willingness to be seen as one. I dont know about the rest of the people you're speaking on, I'm solely talking about Ruiz.Comment
