someone asked about this fight earlier, can't find the thread now, but here's the info:
HBO has pulled it's October 7 PPV date, which Top Rank Inc had on hold for an Antonio Margarito fight. We understand that HBO pulled the date so Don King Productions can stage a heavyweight championship doubleheader featuring Sergei Liakhovich and Nikolay Valuev in seperate title defenses. Liakhovich is expected to face Mike Tyson conqueror Kevin McBride while Valuev will face former title challenger Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett. Madison Square Garden appears to be the frontrunner to host the event as this goes to print.
BTW, for those wondering, Arum issued a statement today saying this would also be the date they'd set up for a Margarito fight:
"Antonio Margarito is going to fight this year. They already called us from HBO to say they're doing a HBO fight with Nicolay Valuev on October 7th. That's the date we were going to put a pay-per-view on for Margarito," said Arum, with a chuckle.
I guess HBO is leaving it's options open..
