    But the fight did happen......

He beat him in the Amateurs and Bowe ran like a little girl because he knew what would have happened without the headgear.

Bowe didn`t fight Lewis, Tyson, Foreman. Tyson didn`t fight Foreman. Bowe didn`t fight Lewis..Ok, Tyson was in jail, he has an excuse.

Foreman, fat, half dead, was world champ with nearly 50 years of age..
I’m not aware of anyone Lewis ducked Foreman and Bowe wouldn’t fight him.

Only the myth that is going on among casuals that Lewis ducked Tyson until he was past prime, when it was Don King that paid Lewis step aside money.

But MANY uninformed people believe that Lewis ducked Tyson.

Bert Cooper (RIP) was Bert Cooper. No one could question the mans heart and a KO animal. Everyone knew his style he was there to knock you out or he was getting knocked out.
That is three guys and you talked like he fought great contenders on the way up a who’s who as you said. You don’t see a Mercer or Rudduck ect all you see is safe fights Thomas had four loses by then and Bowe was a huge fav over a former champ who was struggling with well known addiction issues.Cooper had already quit once and basically quite on Bowe.Tony tubs was a very safe opponent no power .

I never said he fought great contenders. I tried to say (maybe failing miserably or poorly) that he fought The Who’s who of boxing. Meaning he fought legitimate boxers/contenders. However no matter what we think about his competition in the run up, it’s a moot point. They were legit because his first attempt at a World HW championship was a win against a prime HOF and all time great Holyfield. His competition prepared him.

I’ll also had that the 32 fights prior can be deceiving because it was built on an extremely active schedule. This is something lost to most fans today.

In 89 he fought 13 times over a 9 month period. In 90 he fought 8 times. In 91 he fought 7 times. In 92 (his championship year) he fought 4 times. In 93 he fought 3 times and lost the title near the end of the year. Then once again redeeming himself by winning a world title again and beating Holyfield in the trilogy.

Even with or without the title the man kept a busy schedule.

Razor Ruddock truly wasn’t anyone special. He fought ordinary fighters as anyone else on Bowe’s resume. The only reason Ruddock is mentioned is because he fought Tyson twice, and Lennox Lewis. All losses and additionally losing to Tommy Morrison and David Jaco. Prior to Tyson Ruddock like any other boxer had a rather ordinary resume.

Ray Mercer was another boxer whose name eclipses his potential. He too benefited from fighting named opponents but outside championship fights also too had an ordinary resume.

Do not take what I’ve said wrong. 90s was my favorite era for HW boxing. The names I’ve mentioned (like today) any one of these boxers were skilled enough to unseat a champion. Any person on Lennox’s list, Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield could have beaten any other. Lennox lost to McCall, Tyson to Buster, Bowe to Holyfield, Holyfield to both Bowe and Lennox, Tyson to both Lennox and Holyfield. Top HWs of every era find where top fighters did not fight one another. Just because they never faced each other for whatever reason does that tarnish his legacy? If yes than you’d have to say the same for the all time greats as well.

Did Foreman duck Shavers? Did Norton duck Frazier?
Did Ray Leonard duck Aaron Pryor?
              Did Mayweather duck Paul Williams?

                This happens in every era.

Did Lennox Lewis Duck Byrd, Wlad and Ibeabuchi?

I could go on and on with this list but I’ll leave it here for now

I don’t use the term “duck” because it’s an attempt to diminish the boxer it’s used against without any frame of reference to time, place or circumstance.
