Comments Thread For: Ortiz: Wilder Is Only One Who Can Say For Sure If Rematch is Next

If his house was in better order, Luis Ortiz's recent trip to New York would be to settle in for another heavyweight title shot. Instead, his journey to Brooklyn's Barclays Center was to tease the possibility of what might lie ahead for the Cuban southpaw.

I don't want to see this.

Rather see Fury rematch, I believe the gap in skills have gone up in Wilder's favor

Wow, such great sports reporting on this site. Let's just use Jim Grey's 30 second post fight interview from Saturday with Ortiz and make that an article on Monday.

Ortiz deserves a rematch based on his performance against Wilder the first time. He'll probably lose but I believe he's earned another crack at the title.

Is there any possibility that Ortiz could make it an interesting rematch or hurt Wilder? Reason I say this is cause right before Wilder got the KO on Breazeale, Wilder got countered by Breazeale and looked like he got staggered a bit. Ortiz has more punching power than Breazeale and this was evident in the first fight with Wilder.

Wilder is an accident waiting to happen, he's shown himself a bit chinny a few times but to date has recovered and his right gets him out of trouble.

I suspect Wilder is getting a tad better in the defence dept. though, and with age and wear catching up on Ortiz, I can imagine Wilder doing much better vs Ortiz in the rematch and less likely to get tagged like he did. Ortiz I was a bit of a shoot-out at times, and Ortiz II its more likely Wilder lands than Ortiz...but for sure, could be Ortiz landing first next time.

BIG possibility that Ortiz could drop Wilder or push him to the brink in a war! He's a crafty veteran, was winning on points, and gave Wilder the scariest 7th round of his entire career. You've got to slow the fight down to appreciate its beauty. With heavyweight power, all it takes is one mistake. If Ortiz trains hard and comes into the rematch with a brilliant game plan, he can make history.

Ortiz is finished. He had his shot and blew it. He should fight top 10 contenders now. I'm sure he can still beat a few of those guys.
