They should not wait. Fight in December. YOu don't want it to be like Lopez Gamboa. They tried to keep marinating it until Salido scorched Gamboa. Let's get it on this year!

Lewis-Bowe didn't happen because Bowe avoided Lewis his whole career. Wilder actually seems to be getting better. A year or 2 ago I would have favored Joshua, now I'm not so sure.Comment

British sports fans are “event” fans.....being a man of both countries it’s hard
For Americans to fathom the mindset of the British sport fan. What we say in the uk is basically called a “piss up”, piss meaning alcohol....groups getting together for an excuse to drink...basically every sporting event is like Cinco de Mayo for Mexican Americans....or should I say cinco de drinko. Most of the boxing fans you see in the uk these days are a result of Eddie hearns mad push on sky....directly related to the popularity of Anthony Joshua. Most of these obnoxious ones today wouldn’t be able to relate to you if you starting bringing up boxing history prior to let’s say Floyd Mayweather. Certainly not the younger ones which is what you see on here. And the concept of nationalism in the uk dwarfs any nationalism regarding sports in the uk. Sports in the uk...”soccer”, rugby, cricket, tennis etc have an international flavor and aspect. The big sports in the USA don’t. Different mindset, and the vast majority of uk people don’t understand that Americans don’t look at sports the same way brits do. White and black Americans generally don’t care where a boxer comes from, Mexican Americans however do on average. Of course, with the net, and the Eddie Hearn invasion and legions of online uk sports fans “following” (digitally of course) him to the USA and their propensity towards “banter” have made American fans respond in kind....which of course is what the average yobbo piss head wants....Comment

Wasn't it the same for Manny & Floyd? If I remember correctly, It was on 2 different networks at the same time. Like others have said, based on Wilder's post fight comments, both sides are in on it. I truly believe this is why fighters go from I want to fight the best, to I'm not fighting X until he gets a belt and then switch to focusing on unifying..just to end up telling people X won't draw a lot of interest from fans.
Anyways, to me it's not much different then when Don king was still active. His fighter would fight each other and on those PPV hosted by Bob Sheridan etc.
Bottom line, the smell of big money has a way erasing all that stuff and making things happen. The late John McCain tried to bring attention to the madness that is boxing and Floyd no matter what anyone thinks about the guy did as much for boxing with his business savvy.
Promoters had their chance, now the next big stars will slowly impose the changes that need to happen. AJ could have been one of those, but he's now at the mercy of DAZN. To me DAZN will do as much good for boxing as Dana White and the UFC did for MMA. It'll look good for a few years and then people will realize that it created a monopoly that only favors the owners. Connor understood, fought Floyd and opted to retire after he understood the scam.Comment

And by the way, boxing then and boxing now are in quite a different place. Boxing then was still mentioned on the nightly news, still covered in the sports section on the newspaper, I can remember the cover of sports illustrated with “Robbed” on the cover regarding pernell Whitaker’s “draw” with JC Superstar. I can see what wilder, haymon, and the PBC are doing, building a singular brand in wilder and an overall brand in PBC. Frankly Hearn and dazn are trying to do the same thing just with less scruples. Network wasn’t an issue with Lewis and bowe, both were hbo fighters and hbo was the spot for boxing in the USA circa 1993-1994. If wilder were to make 2-3 more defenses, with the marketing strategy that’s being employed by CBS/Showtime, PBC and therefore FOX, the fight will bring the entire sports world to an attentive halt for that nightComment

I used to be an MMA fan myaelf, used to love Pride FC and Strikeforce....but when the Ufc bought them all out, that literally was the beginning of the end. Difference is that Ufc was Mma, dazn has absolutely ability to grow boxing in the USA, if it were to become boxing’s only outlet, boxing not only stays a minor niche sport but it totally marginalises it from all other sports fans.Comment
