Why is Luis Ortiz so highly thought of by Americans?

Howdy (fat Yank) partners. Can someone explain to the rest of us why Luis "King Kong" Ortiz is so highly ranked over there? Which achievements in particular set him aside as truly great in your eyes?

In the UK he is only known for an absolute stinker in Monaco against Malik Scott, and then beating up Hearn's bag carrier, Dave Allen.

But, honestly, the guy is something like Takam. Well, takam is more experienced on high level, maybe Takam beats Ortiz.

well it certainly cant be for his resume or achievments as a proffessional Boxer. He aint done nothing. I think its cuz he had Wilder all over the place before the corrupt officials saved Wilder so rather than say Wilder struggled against another bum they paint it up like Ortiz is some sort of Boogeyman. But as we see from these Half hybrids and these Boogeymen as soon as they get offered a fight with AJ they turn into little girl kittens in the middle of an ink shortage.

Again, what do you base this statement off? From what I've seen, Ortiz has looked like a crude slugger, telegraphing a lot of his punches and just trying to brute force his opponents. It usually works against the lesser opposition he's been matched with. What makes you think he's one of the most skillful to lace them up?

Because he's Wilder's best win and they have to hype him up as a colossal beast that only Wilder can beat in order to have any voice in this H.W. That is why they were PRAYING that Joshua vs Ortiz doesn't happen because they know that Joshua would demolish Ortiz inside 5 and Wilder's best win would go down the toilet.

I picked Ortiz to beat Wilder, but not because of how good Ortiz is, it's because of how bad Wilder is. lol.

He's decent but being Cuban has somehow made him overrated like he's some master boxer.

I've always said if you stuck his resume on a guy from some random city in USA, nobody would be talking about him. He's beat a few fringe contenders and got stopped in his only big fight. No different to guys like Breazeale.

Ortiz is a counter puncher, so he's not going to throw a bunch of punches per round, he's methodical in his approach, timing his guys and then rocking them. It's a style that's not the most appreciated. Many people find it boring. And other than Wilder, he's dismantled and picked apart every opponent he's had. I never thought that Tony Thompson was a good scalp by any means, but last week people were saying that Wilder should have fought him after Thompson beat Price. Ortiz retired him. And people sure think Dave Allen is ready for Joshua now (for some ****ing reason)

End of the day, you can't really bash a heavyweight for having a bad resume, especially if he came up during the Klit era. If you were a heavyweight boxer during the Klit era, and you didn't fight one of the Klitchko's then you have nobody on your resume. Same can be said for Povetkin, Takam, Pulev, Chisora or any fighter in their mid to late 30's.
