Who knows ..Ali had all the skill and determination it takes to come back and win from that knockdown and I have to think that he would have ran for the next round or so, cleared his head and some how won in the end even without the rip . Also who's to say the rip wouldnt have became worst even without help which would have gave Ali time anyways . The fight was what it was and as said Ali came back in the rematch and won clean so it's no matter, the better man won in the end .

1) That the KD happened at the end of the round, because he had absolutely no clue what planet he was on, even though he got up fairly quick. If it had happened in the middle of the round, he probably would have been stopped. That's as hurt as anyone had him in his career, even Frazier.
2) That smelling salts had not been named illegal yet. They were not legal, actually, but not specifically named as illegal, IIRC. The smelling salts brought him back to Earth and out of the haze. Without them, he may have lost the fight.
3) The torn glove obviously aiding in aritifically tearing up Cooper's eye to end the fight in the next round.
But as was said, Ali came back and won the rematch, but yes, Allah or whomever was definitely watching over him in that first fight.
I think the rip only delayed the next round by 5 seconds anyway, I may be wrong there. But the rip in the glove was already there so it's likely the next round would have been haltered pretty early anyway to sort out the glove problem.
Ali was dazed in his corner for only a short while. Dundee waved an amonea slip under ALi's nose which made him come too within the first 30 seconds of the corner break. So no, ALi won fair and sqaure and the rematch just reinforces who is the beter fighter.

The smelling salts definatly saved Ali in that fight, not the torn glove.
