What is Canelo's Biggest Strength as a Fighter? I Say Head Movement
Collapse

Yeah, Mayweather always seemed calm in the ring. That's very admirable. I would agree. Canelo appears calm in every round no matter what's going on. I think this is why a loss can truly benefit a young fighter and make them better.
Can you give a specific example of when you thought he displayed great ring IQ and why? I'm not questioning you. Just would like more input. Great post!
Other fighters would have panicked with their backs against the ropes, and get stopped.
but he didn't panick, he remain calm, took a massive right hand, shook his head, counters and in the end GGG had to back off him.Comment

He definitely isn't the typical left jab and right hand sort of guys, this is why i like him, watching the HW for example (AJ/Wilder and Fury to a point).. You know their punch selection, left, left and then boom they throw the right hand.
With Canelo, it's just different and am trying not to become a massive fan because of that "Tainted beef" thing. But i just love watching him, the same way i use to with Mayweather.Comment

It's so interesting. He seems to fight from the outsde a lot but he closes that gap and connects when he sees the right opening, like a cobra just waiting, but I think he's more accurate than a cobra. Haha. That was a beautiful thing to watch. And yes, damn. Hooks and uppercuts and closing that distance at just the right time. Man, hell of a video! I feel a bit smarter now. Haha.Comment

The first GGG fight, against the ropes and GGG throwing haymakers and landing or trying to on him.
Other fighters would have panicked with their backs against the ropes, and get stopped.

People are going to laugh at this but i think its his lack of height, The average MW can't go to the body on this guy cause tall dudes have to get low as heck to get him there and by the time they do Canelo counters them, so they are left on island trying to find Canelos head with all that head movement.Comment

Let alone his power and variety of punches
Imo , it’s his movement in the ring , the way he cuts off the ring
By doing so he manages to get his opponent where he wants
I attribute this skill to his loss with Mayweather
Floyd cut the ring off very well , always to try to position himself better to land
It also helps defensively cause you should be in a better position to weave , to roll away basically not get hitComment

I think he has great people in his corner and he follows his game plans to a t.
He's comfortable with the his team giving him the right instructions for the right Fighters and they all believe in each other and what they are doing.
But that's just one side to what makes him great.
Odviously he has to be skilled enough to pull of what they are trying to achieve.Last edited by BLASTER1; 05-16-2019, 03:52 AM.Comment
