Team Andre Ward was not interested in facing undefeated super middleweight Curtis Stevens on Ward's scheduled co-feature on HBO's August 19 installment of Boxing After Dark. DiBella also stated that Stevens was willing to come down to 160 pounds to make the fight, but he understands why the handlers of the 2004 Olympic Gold Medallist are looking elsewhere. Paul Williams-Sharmba Mitchell will headline the telecast, the Reno Events Center will host all the action and Goossen Tutor Promotions will promote.

I dont blame him, Stevens is a huge test for him. Stevens has already beaten former title challengers. Ward better not make the Julio mistake and step up too soon. -
I agree, i wish DiBella would get Stevens more 'television' exposure, however, given that more boxing fans know Ward than know Stevens thanks in part to the way Ward's been promoted..Originally posted by BIGPOPPAPUMPI dont blame him, Stevens is a huge test for him. More fuel for my doubt. I dont think much of Ward, he hasn't shown the mental intagibles that I value in a fighter. He doesn't seem very sure of himself sometimes, almost freezes when he isn't sure of what he wants to do. He has alot of holes in his defense and just isn't that confident. On top of that, he looks very small. Curtis Stevens is too big for him and would just steam roll him. A Stevens win would've made him the best prospect in the world.Comment

Great decision!
All these other prospects keep getting pressured into fighting big names too soon and end up losing. Ward is being smart.Comment

should be fuel for some doubt about curtis stevens, why the **** should he be calling out guys in a lower weight class, guys that everyone would predict him to beat, when he is on the brink of a title shot at super middle.
yeah its an HBO date, but its kinda like if john duddy called out julio caesar chavez junior and said hed make i47 pounds for it.Comment

Not only that, hes calling out a guy who is 9-0.Originally posted by Hitman932more ful for your doubt are you being serious?

there is way too much pressure on andre ward to become the man, he needs to take it slow, but should fight more often if you get what im sayin.Originally posted by PBF34Not only that, hes calling out a guy who is 9-0.
i was watchin the george foreman episode on contender and he he had some advice for the guys that andre ward would be wise to take.
"plan your work, then work your plan"
he cant get distracted by these kinda things, there are sure to be a lot of people calling his name seeing he has television backing and appears veulnerable.Comment

to think ward is being asked to step up too early......
imagine the plight of poor Pete Radamacher.....
he was the 1956 heavyweight gold medalist and was matched against floyd patterson for the world heavyweight title in his professional debut, he was knocked down 6 times and finally out for good in the 6th.Comment
