    Little guy appreciation thread

I really have only ever followed weight classes from WW-HW. I just have never gotten into watching the smaller guys since I can't imagine them beating me up, I guess.

But I remember loving the SRR-Chocolatito fight on the Jacobs GGG undercard.

Which little guys should I give a chance? Obviously I have seen Loma and like him. But otherwise all of the little fellas are just all the same to me at this point. I like Rigo but never hear about him anymore.

Any good little guy fights coming up that I should look for? I heard good things about the Estrada SRR fights.

I'm less into lil guys these days, but some past lil guy badasses are Ricardo Lopez, Michael Carbajal & Humberto Gonzalez.

Ricardo Lopez was 51-0-1 (38). He was a long time champion at 105. He captured a 108lb belt in his last couple fights. Imo among the most technically strong boxers I've ever seen.

Michael Carbajal was a 88 Olympic silver medalist. He won a 108lb belt 17 months into his pro career. Had a nice trilogy with Humberto (going 1-2). Ended his career with a KO of a young Jorge Arce.

Humberto Gonzalez was a 108lb champion & had a lil guy Tyson-like vibe for a long time going 30-0 (24) before getting upset in a shocking KO loss to a 24-5 (8) opponent. Beat Carbajal in 2 of their 3 fights, losing the first one by KO & beating him back to back in close decisions in the last 2. Retired after a fight of year fight that he lost in 95.

Thanks man, good post. I just put on Gonzalez Carbajal 1. I do love how those little guys just stand in front of on one another sometimes and T off lol. They bring the action.

My favorite division of all-time is quite possibly bantamweight. Here’s a list of fights and fighters I would highly recommend that are super bantamweight and below :-

Eder Jofre - One of the most complete and perfect boxers in history.

Ruben Olivares - If Matthew Saad Muhammad isn’t the most entertaining fighter in history he is

        Wilfredo Gomez
        Carlos Zarate
        Fighting Harada
Masao Ohba - Japan’s Salvador Sanchez died at 23 in his prime
        Ricardo Lopez
        Mark Johnson
        Yuri Arbachakov
        Hiroyuki Ebihara
        Chang Jung-Koo
        Rafael Marquez
        Israel Vazquez
        Jose Medel
        Rafael Herrera
        Chucho Castillo
        Gilberto Roman
        Johnny Tapia
Daniel Zaragoza - not a big hitter or graceful boxer but had so many great fights
        Jeff Fenech

Here’s about 20-30 fights I think are must watch for any boxing fan :-

        Wilfredo Gomez vs. Lupe Pintor
Eder Jofre vs. Jose Medel I
Eder Jofre vs. Fighting Harada I & II
Ruben Olivares vs. Chucho Castillo I & II
Ruben Olivares vs. Katsuyoshi Kanazawa II

Fighting Harada vs. Jose Medel I & II
        Masao Ohba vs. Chartchai Chionoi
        Masao Ohba vs. Betulio Gonzalez
        Wilfredo Gomez vs. Carlos Zarate
        Carlos Zarate vs. Alfonso Zamora
Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez I, II & III
Rafael Marquez vs. Mark Johnson I
Daniel Zaragoza vs. Paul Banke I & II
        Daniel Zaragoza vs. Wayne McCollough
        Gilberto Roman vs. Jiro Watanabe
Gilberto Roman vs. Santos Laciar I, II & III
Humberto Gonzalez vs. Michael Carbajal I
        Humberto Gonzalez vs. Saman Sorjaturong

I wouldn’t call him great or even that good but he was fun as hell.

No chance IMO. I don’t think he’ll even make it onto the ballot. There’s so many fighters not even on the ballot that were better than him. I liked him but he’s not getting close.
