Why are people acting like Mikey Garcia didn't blatantly duck Lomachenko?

We know it's a bad day for Boxing when questions like this even have to be asked. Bravo to Pillowfists98 for actually being man enough to stare down such an ugly situation.

The funniest part is, Blacks and Mexicans were at each others throats a little over a decade ago, fighting over the rotted-out scraps of a sport that used to be relevant. Now that the folks who can actually add some decency and respect to an all but forgotten sport are back, the rodents are all huddled together.

I do agree moving up 2 weights to challenge one of the most skilled and dangerous fighters in the world was a poor decision on Mikey's part, but you can never accuse a guy of ducking someone when the fighter he chose to fight is like 10x more of a risk/danger than Lomachenko lol come on..

        No.

Lomachenko said he wouldn't fight Mikey coming off of his shoulder injury. He preferred someone on the level of Pedraza instead.

Mikey said screw it and moved up two weight classes to fight a bigger and more dangerous opponent.

Garcia was busy looking for big money fights above 135 so he didn't have to fight Lomachenko. Lomachenko is too small to move up beyond 135. Garcia too thirsty for money and burgers to stay there for what would have been the most meaningful fight of his career.

So you agree the fight was never discussed by the two sides?

He would have gotten good money vs Lomachenko anyways. Spence type of money? No, but good nonetheless. And according to both Mikey and Hearn, he had an offer from DAZN to make damn near similar money to what he made against Spence against a much easier opponent. So you can't just say he made the WW jump just for money. He legitimately thought he could out box and out maneuver Spence. Obviously it didn't happen, but an undefeated popular fighter like Mikey who is also on the P4P lists doesn't make that type of jump unless he is confident he can win.

He ducked him because he knew a loss to Lomachenko would be way more damaging to his legacy than a loss to Spence.

Mikey wasted 2.5 years of his prime trying to get away from Top Rank. He's not going back.

Mike was too busy looking for the perfect excuses to avoid lomachenko to discuss a fight. He prefers to fight in other weight classes than to fit the best guy in his own division. Broner fight = big money fight against a guy who loses to any real top fighter he's fights. Sergei lipinets fight= a belt in another division he didn't care about. Spence fight= big money no loss situation. Now he too fat to make it back down to 135.
