    How is it not fair or a sign of corruption? Check the WBC rules. The WBC ruling Lomachenko to face Campbell is fully compliant with them.

    https://wbcboxing.com/wbceng/Rules/W...anuary2014.pdf

    Check page 16 under section "Filling a Vacant Title"

    It says:

    "If a title becomes vacant for any reason, the Board of Governors
    may in its discretion authorize whatever steps or actions it deems necessary or appropriate
    to fill the title, including but not limited to:

    (a) instituting a tournament or elimination contest(s) among Qualified Challengers;
    (b) ordering a championship contest between two Qualified Challengers; or
    (c) recognizing as champion the winner of a previous elimination bout. "

    Who is defined as a "Qualified Challenger"?

    Check page 12:

    A qualified challenger is defined as:

    "(a) any of the top ten (10) rated contenders; or
    (b) with the approval of or ratification by a majority of the Board of Governors,
    i. any boxer rated 11 to 15;
    ii. a champion or a highly-rated boxer of another weight division;
    iii. another WBC champion, such as a WBC Diamond or Silver Champion,
    Champion Emeritus, or Champion in Recess;
    iv. a former world champion or other elite challenger;
    v. a champion of another boxing organization recognized by the WBC; or
    (c) under special circumstances and with the approval of or ratification by two-third
    (2/3rd) of the Board of Governors, a contender not otherwise listed in one or more of
    the above categories. "

    Lomachenko clearly qualifies as a Qualified Challenger under section b, line v as he is a champion of the WBA and WBO, both organizations that the WBC recognizes.

        wow Haney got screwed. Hearn was talking like he had that belt in the bag after swerving around Abdullaev lol

        WBC surprised that plan by giving a non ranked WBA/WBO fighter the mandatory for Campbell of the vacant belt. These belt orgs almost never rank or make guys mandatory when they hold belts for other orgs. Huge win for Top Rank he's going to beat Campbell and keep that belt away from Hearn and Haney. Wonder if Arum paid the WBC off for this.

          How is this possible? Could it be because Linares was guaranteed a shot at the wbc until Loma beat him?

          Never mind. I am here asking questions trying to make sense of alphabet soup decisions.

            Since when has a champion from another sanctioning body been allowed to fight for a vacant belt? Strange. I think the contenders should fight for the belt instead but it seems like I'm in the minority on this thread on that

              As other have pointed out this feels more like a rebuke of Hearn by the WBC.

              Also, It doesn't seem right that the top 2 contenders don't get to fight for a vacant title. Campbell has a much better chance of beating Abdullaev and has no chance of beating Loma.

              But you are right they aren't violating their rules.

                      But yeah, this is how it should be. I'm sure Hearn has to be heated since he thought two of his fighters would fight for the title but instead it will be against Lomachenko....Almost a guaranteed L for Campbell.
                      For once I think this is a great and progressive move by the WBC. Campbell-Haney is a decent fight but it doesn’t really move the division forward. Loma-Campbell, Lopez-Commey in effectively a four man tournament is great for the division.

                      I’m kinda worried for Campbell though he’s talented but always tends to be in the right place at the wrong time, he may be one of those guys who’s destined to not win a world title.
