The only reasons they name drop Kovalev is because 1) He's the biggest name at 175 and 2) He's the champ who's been in many wars and has been defeated. If Kovalev loses to a top contender or any of the champs, they wouldn't contemplate the idea of fighting for a title at 175.

Oscars logic: if the Krusher folded against GGG he will fold against Ginger either.

Either Kovalev punches Canelos head off or gets destroyed on the inside

You guys dont think 190 pound Canelo hits as hard or harder than 190 pound Andre Ward in the ring? He has the lack-of-height advantage to duck under Kovalev's jab and strafe with body shots. Canelo's handspeed would be elite at 175 at the exact moment Kovalev will probably lose his (again, this time even when he does train and diet well) at age 37-38 when this happens.

GBP know what they're doing when it comes to conning the public. They have great experience. Gvozdyk, Bivol, the actual prime champions, no mention of them, but 38 year old Kovalev who has only shown up in good shape to 1 of his last 7 or 8 fights, yeah they'll fight him...

Still, if Kovalev looks good vs Yarde in the summer, then absolutely, that's probably a more interesting opponent for Canelo in the fall than GGG. IF Kovalev looks good, then that would be an amazing matchup. But the reason Im not impressed is because it never happens like that. That's the whole point, they will talk about it when he's looking good because talk is just talk, but they tend to wait until he no longer looks good before actually MAKING the fight, right?

And since I know that about GBP, I can never get excited when they say **** like this.
Bro,just no. People like to **** on kovalev, but the guy is an amazing boxer who has made a career of hurting and ko'ing other light heavies. He's a good enough boxer that many people thought that he outboxed ward in the first, and was competitive with ward in the second fight before getting caught over a lazy jab. Canelo doesn't drop or ko anyone good at 160 or above, but now he's going to stop a light heavyweight? You understand that walk around weight is when the boxer is outside of training camp, and ballooned up in weight right? Kovalev at 175 is lean mass, while canelo would already be pushing his frame at 175 lbs. Kovalev would just need to keep his jab in Alvarez face the whole night, and put canelo to sleep with the first right hand that lands. And no,canelo does not hit harder than Andre Ward at 175.

I'm not impressed with a win over Kovalev at this point.

I would love to see Andre Ward come back and fight Canelo.

Show Ward a $20 million USD payday, and I bet he takes it.

I am sure he would fight them. At a catch-weight with rehydration clauses of course.

Canelo is really becoming even more confident. Yes, he could beat light heavyweights. Only a heavyweight like Joshua or Fury would be a bit too much. It would be another thing if he started out at middleweight and could make it to heavyweight and beat big men then, as Floyd Patterson did. Roy Jones also did it, although he would not have beaten Lennox or Tyson, so a John Ruiz was a good opponent for him.

Does Canelo have a death wish? I would fear for his life against Kovalev. Kovalev Kos him within 3. Would be a very ****** move on Canelos part.

Agreed. Jacobs isn’t a litmus yest for kovalev, both are long but utilize the jab in different ways. Jacobs put a pawing jab out last night and tried to slip in a rear hand uppercut as canelo came in but was usually unsuccessful. He didn’t fight tall last night and was very tentative mostly fighting off the back foot. Kovalev is excellent at mid and long range, darting in and out with a stiff jab and stronger right. Kovalev is an excellent boxer. He outboxed a superior fighter in Ward their first fight and shut out Eleider Alvarez, even at his diminished state I’d favor him over Alvarez. If canelo wants to move up, Callum Smith and Bivol at 168 would be excellent fights.

Without rehydration clauses or weight restrictions, Callum Smith would avenge his brother’s KO lose by knocking out Canelo. Kovalev on the other hand would destroy him imo.

Not probably On ESPN deportes they mentioned that Jacobs weight was 186 pounds to Canelo’s 175.
