Ok, but Canelo weighed 169 at the second weigh-in, so the difference isn't exactly huge. Weight gamesmanship has become a key stratagem in today's boxing, especially because of the day-before way-ins, and the prevalence of catch-weights, which Canelo has made regular use of.
I'm not a huge fan of this either, but every guy is doing everything he can to gain an advantage. We know Canelo has the judges, at least in close situations: They will absolutely rule his way.
So, Jacobs' gambit does make sense. I'm sure he knew that without the rehydration clause, Canelo wouldn't have taken the fight. And he made a decision that could be considered smart.
If he wins, he'll look smart anyway.....
