We already know the likely conclusion. The question is whether Saturday night (ESPN PPV, 9 PM EST) marks a journey fans wants to take anyways. An assumed conclusion isn't always a bad thing. Often the stories we follow, the one's where we already know where we are probably going to end up, are returned too most easily; a sort of entertainment comfort food.

Errol Spence's best competition was Chris Algieri and Crawford is fighting Amir Khan, the man beat Algieri and blew up his face.

If Bud Crawford beats Khan, a case can be made that Bud beat better competition than Errol Spence. If Bud goes on to fight and beat Kell Brook, Spence will either need to fight Crawford or admit Bud Crawford is better because the rest of the world certainly will, me included.

Spence's best opponent was Brook who is much better than Khan, that's why Amir has been avoiding him.

Brook / Crawford is already in the works. After Crawford beats Kell Brook ...then what? What excuses will the public grant Errol Spence? IMO, none. Spence will either agree to fight Bud, fight a top 3 WW or move to 154lbs.

Perception is everything and the public perception will not favor Errol Spence. Frankly, Errol Spence might believe he can beat Crawford but Hayman isn't having it because Haymon/PBC, not Errol, stand to lose if Errol fights outside of the PBC's contracted showtime agreement.

If you've notice, the fights that aren't made might hurt the fighters rep and pocket and only benefit the PBC. The PBC talk about loyalty but it's always at the expense of the fighter. The only exception IMO is Danny Garcia, he's knows he's mediocre & happily fights mediocre guys for a smaller pay for as long as he can fool the public.
