You took the fight because A) It wasn't Brook, and B) You can tell your friends down at the snooker club that you fought one of the best in the sport - and got beat up - just like with Canelo and nearly FLoyd and Pacman before that. By sharing a ring with a great makes you a great (in your head).
You can't blame Khan for avoiding Brook. If I had a stalker I woudn't give him what he wants either.
