Comments Thread For: Gilberto Ramirez Looks Huge at 175, Batters Karpency For TKO

Karpency is obviously an opponent who serves to give recent arrivals at 175 a low risk fight and give them the opportunity to see how the weight feels without worrying too much about getting into a real fight.
I welcome a new addition to what I regard as the hottest division in boxing right now - it is teetering on the edge of either becoming a split four way competition, but the injection of a fighter like Ramirez who knows how to use his best assets very well, and who I don't believe will take long before he is in the mix for a title shot can potentially upset and force the powers that benefit most from a fractured division.
It appears Kovalev has been earmarked as the weak link in the four way chain, as his name has been mentioned numerous times by contenders and up and comers alike.
I would say forget about this year in terms of any unification fights or blockbuster match ups.
Next year will see more pressure mount as by then all four belt holders will have had (hopefully) enough fights and fans, pundits commentators will all be asking why some of the most talented and exciting champs are not making good on their standard 'I'm here to collect all the belts' script.
Not to mention that Bivol aside the other three are in their early thirties, and now there are enough hungry and worthy contenders, that fighting the Barrera's, Chilemba's, Pascal's, Ngumbu's and the like won't wash.
This division has it all and that doesn't happen very often. Every possible type of fighter in terms of where they are in their career is present.
Beneath the four title holders are some real threats who are young and hungry. Marcus Browne, Anthony Yarde, Joshua Buatsi,(and now Ramirez) then slightly older but dangerous are Callum Johnson, Badou Jack, and Eleider Alvarez, - wich simply makes it much harder for the boys with the belts to keep on fighting in that slow, low risk pattern almost all of us hate - because here we have a situation where somethings gotta give.
