Lucia Rijker was a fantastic female boxer, although to put it in perspective with womens boxing, she was knocked out badly by an unknown male boxer in a fight. I have seen that footage. Certainly thought they deserve to compete, whether they get a reasonaly sized audience or not. The likes of Shields, Hammer, Braekhus and Taylor are good boxers.Comment

Yeah, I've seen her fight before. She's quite good. Not sure if she'd ever cross paths with Katie Taylor, given her age and the difference in weight, as you mentioned. You seen Braekhus box, man? Chick's been unified for something like 24 fights, undisputed for about 10 and ain't lost more than a handful of rounds in that time. Different level from the vast majority of all except one or two women (like Taylor). Braekhus and Taylor I could see hanging with the guys up to a respectable level. Only thing is the First Lady gonna be 38 in a few months and can't have long left at the top... it's a fair size difference but if some kinda catchweight could be sorted between Braekhus and Taylor... damn.

Writer could've mentioned the fact that it was taylor who practically single handedly got women's boxing into the 2012 Olympics. It was her campaigning and skills that got the sport recognised by aiba to a point that Olympic committee agreed to bring it on board. It was that Olympic showing that fast tracked women's boxing into the general pro boxing limelight. To say women's boxing is "led by shields" is innacurate and fills the need for american sports fans to feel their athletes are the centre of the universe. Taylor is the leader in female boxing, and deserves to be as she dragged it into mainstream recognition. Eddie hearn also deserves a shout out for his promotion of Taylor, and it's rare I give kudos to a brit.
Shields > Taylor
Amateur: 2 Olympic gold medals > 1
Pro: 2-weight champion > 1
Pro: 5 world titles > 3
