Like I said before - Simple - Let Haney and Lopez fight and the winner becomes a true contender to fight Loma. Battle of undefeated fighters vying for the spot. Both Haney and Lopez are solid talents, the winner becomes a justified challenger. Haney and Lopez would be HUGELY each other's best competition and the winner earns the shot. BOTH fighters are ranked in the WBO and the WBA which Loma holds the titles in. Perfect. As long as Arum allows the winner if it is Lopez to fight Loma, seeing as he promotes both.

Mark my words, no fighter ever does. Every fighter in boxing history short of a Mayweather, etc., whether a prospect, a contender, a champion, even an ATG, they all win some and lose some. History is infallible. Not even the greatest fighters that ever lived go through everyone, especially in two divisions, without losing. Lopez will win some and lose some. Lopez is not a God. But enjoy the ride, he'll be fun to watch.Last edited by richardt; 04-05-2019, 11:12 AM.Comment

Lopez is only 21, and he's got next gen. all over him. He's got elite atheticism, but experience matters, and every boxer at age 21 still has some fundamental flaws to iron out, be they Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Mayweather, Canelo, Loma...or Lopez (I only put Lopez in that category for now just to emphasise it doesn't matter how good a boxer looks on the eye, they are still a rookie at 21 and will be making rookie mistakes).
I'd say develop him with the aim to get him in with the Pedrazas etc next year, then in for the belts the year after at 23, which is about the same pace as the Canelos, Leonards, Hearns etc.
Experience matters, and it would be too easy for Loma to identify flaws in Lopez's game right now and to exploit them. Lopez might hit like a truck, but if he's swinging at air all night his confidence might take a hit, and he doesn't need that. A L to Loma would be neither here nor there, just as Canelo's L to Mayweather is irrelevant, but is Lopez in a place where he could learn lessons from an L and get better ? Or is he in a place where his confidence would be damaged to the point that he goes backward ? No point risking it - let him develop another couple of years.
We've only got Loma for a couple more years before he's gone, but we could have Lopez for the next decade - Lopez doesn't need Loma.Comment

Since when is flatfooted considered gifted? There's levels to this sport and Lopez has a long way to go if he gets a shot at Loma and that's a big "IF" since Lopez doesn't have a beltComment
