Comments Thread For: Gvozdyk: I Think Ngumbu Just Came To Get A Paycheck

PHILADELPHIA Oleksandr Gvozdyk indicated that he didn't want to insult Doudou Ngumbu. Then he did. Gvozdyk questioned Ngumbu's effort while talking to a group of reporters following his fifth-round, technical-knockout victory Saturday night at 2300 Arena. The unbeaten Ukrainian champion had hoped to score a more definitive win against an overmatched opponent against whom he was listed as a 100-1 favorite by numerous Internet sports books.

"he just came to get a paycheck" well hes ranked #26 at lhw & lost to F levels 8x ffs, what does that say about Gvozdyk other than that "he just came to get an extra payday vs the usual top stank bums."

& it says a ton about that hypocritical pos Teddy Atlas.

Gvozdyk says this is the second time he wasn't able to celebrate his championship.

Stevenson selfishly fell into a coma and this guy had the audacity to injure his calf. Why are they making it so hard for the nail to enjoy himself?

Sometimes I wonder why they let boxers speak.

That guy didn't deserve a title shot anyways. He made me mad with all that running and holding. If he was going to fight like that he should have declined the fight.

First off, Ngumbu is not on Gvozdyk's level, but he was still accounting for himself fairly well. Was fighting his fight and making things difficult for Gvozdyk. But clearly he ended up hurting his hamstring or calf or Achilles. Sh^t happens, it's unfair to say Ngumbu just came for a paycheck. Dude is a legitimate journeyman fighter who got the biggest opportunity of his career. A guy like that isn't just coming for a paycheck.

It’s Top Rank’s fault for booking such a mismatch, especially as an ESPN main event.

                Just don't...

Like someone said it was an obvious mismatch!!!! The guys should not even have been in the ring with him.

Gvozdyk faced a 40 year old champ and almost killed him, what did he expect from a 37 year old no name that hasn't fought in 10 months?!?! If belt holders can dodge real challengers to protect their undefeated records and get a big payday why can' t this guy protect his life to keep putting food on his kid's table. Ngumbu isn't going to retire on the $$ he makes from boxing and has to be able to work whatever jobs outside of boxing.
