Thats how its always worked for better or worse. There is seemingly just more money in it for elderly boxers now than in the old timey days. Fair play to the boxers I say.
I prefer guys get in & out of this sport myself. Marcos Maidana was damn near a folk hero to me for retiring when he did...til he announced his comeback.
But I get it. Wtf do you do with your life at 35, 40 when all you've been doing since 8 is boxing? And why would you necessarily wanna do something else instead of getting a 5, 6 or 7 digit check for boxing which is what you've dedicated your life to?
As fans I think too many of us think of legacy stuff & boxing history stuff with these types of fights or just older guys in general. I think the fighters look at it more like a wtf am I supposed to do now thing or a pay the bills/setup a bigger next egg thing.
