Gronk, Gerald Washington, and Seth Mitchell can have box off for the greatest former football player turned boxer of all time

washington couldnt crack an nfl roster...gronkowski is the best TE of all time and was not a stricly one dimensionall TE either...he was an elite blocker and receiver....blocking requires him to push and hold 250-300lb beasts off the line of scrimmage...and receving required him to run with and away from guys 200-250lbs who can run 4.3-4.6 in a 40 and reqularly post 40 inch verticals

you guys hear "football" when people talk about washington and seth mitchell...what you fail to understand is that they werent good enough to make it to the NFL

Aren't Antonio Gates, Shannon Sharpe and Tony Gonzalez considered to be better?

lol...i agree the thread premise is ******....gronk wouldnt be able to box for **** right now...had he trained since a youth maybe its a different story

but comparing him to mitchell and washington is just plain ignorant and ******....neither mitchell nor washington could make an nfl roster....and these guys are trying to compare him to a guy who is the greatest player at his position ever

sharpe definitley not...gonzalez and gates you have a case for....but in reality its longevity that would help the argument for those guys....

i wouldnt argue against gates or gonzalez....but i think prime for prime...game for game....gronkowski is better...less games played....and he was a better blocker than either of those guys imo....

if you look at games played gates is at about 200..gonzalez 250...gronk played like 115....i think gronk was overall the more dominant when he played......he was also an injury risk guy coming in which is why he slipped to the 2nd round but his body could never really handle it which is unfortunate

if gronk were able to amass the years and games played of those other guys i think he would have bested them in most statistical categories....that just wasnt meant to be

you def have to respect gonzalez and gates for being able to stick around so long...def not easy to do especially in your 30s....gronk has had it rough though...his body always betrays him and the grind to get himself prepared just isnt worth it to him anymore(although i suspect he may be back at some point)

If he returns I hope it's for the Bills (yea I'm a Bills fan). There were rumors of that since he grew up in Buffalo but I have a feeling it was just wishful thinking from Bills social media.

Yea you're right. Sports social media outlets aren't always reliable sources of information. Big surprise.

It's happened before...Ed "Too Tall" Jones was a professional football player who turned pro late. He had about a half dozen pro fights that were all televised because of his already established name. He stood 6'9" and went undefeated against marginal journeymen.

Gronk would need a couple of years training, sparring and getting a few amateur fights under his belt. Only then could we assess whether or not he could compete with the top ten HWs. I will say this, if ever there was an era where a fighter gets a late start in the HW division, this is the best time to do it. He has the athleticism, strength, youth and size to compete, but who knows if he has the desire, discipline and coordination to become a fighter?

Why box? Sign with the UFC, win one fight and get hyped up as the GOAT heavyweight then retire with a rcord of 1-2
