    Tarver and Jones

Does anyone believe that Roy Jones could really beat Antonio Tarver? I think that he could as a matter of fact I know. In my eyes he beat Tarver in good fashion in their first match even though Roy was drained from losing weight. In the second fight roy had won the first round until Tarver got that one lucky punch on Roy and I think that did damaged Roy. But If Roy really wanted to win that third match he would have.

I don't know if Roy could have beat Tarver in the third fight. But I do get the impression that Jones is more mentally shot than physically shot.

How can u say that after watching all 3 performances? In the first fight Jones barely won because he never felt or knew how to deal with the pressure. It could have been a draw but I give him that. The second fight Tarver capitalized after his famous quote "You got any excuses tonight Roy". The third Roy just looked awful scared to throw and barely landing punches. How in the world can you see him winning? If the real Roy showed up 3 times and got beat up what makes you think anything will change?

I think if he really went for it he would have won the 3rd fight . At the right place and time Roy would have beat Tarver this is more of a matter of Tarver picking the right time then him having Roy's number . With that said Tarver would have always been a hard fight for Jones because of his style and drive but a peek Roy is about as good as it gets, don't let this all fool you. tarver just hit his prime peek abilty at the same time as Roy was coming down from his, that is all this was .

He's asking if he could have with the proper effort, and I think absolutely in the third fight. When Roy threw punches and stayed in the middle of the ring in the third fight, he was simply in another class. But he did it so rarely that it didn't matter. But it was a window into what could have been. Roy is mentally defeated and has been since the second Tarver fight. Watch Round 5 (I believe it is) of Tarver-Jones 3. It was still there, he was just afraid to use it- like a mental block.

Tarver was able to hurt Roy with his right hook in their third fight.

Roy won the 1st narrowly, then got caught with a big left in the 2nd, even though he was winning up until that point. He has never been the same since and will never be the same again. He lost the 3rd because he seemed too scared to engage in case he got KO'd again. He appeared happy just to finish the fight on his feet.

Roy pre Ruiz was a different fighter to any later incarnations.

roy lost that fight because he chose not to fight.. its as simple as that.. if they fought off the record like in a gym.. roy would pick apart tarver.. he was fighting to survive in the last fight.. and i dont know why hes still fighting..
