I don't think he saw anything specific.
I think he thought he was the much superior boxer and could overcome size with skill. I think he underestimated Spence's skills and ability to use all his advantages.
It turns out that he wasn't as skilled as Spence, or at least nowhere near skilled enough overcome disadvantages.
Ultimately it was a fight he knew he could make good money, if he wins then it goes down as an incredible win and if he loses, well everyone expected it. He had nothing to lose really.Comment

He saw what Spence Jr Critics saw...they THOUGHT he was Slow, Flatfooted with No Head Movement and Shaky Defense! I think Mikey thought he could Out-Box and Counter Spence Jr. But found out the hard way that Spence Jr is far more Crafty than he thought as Chris Algeri Warned everybody

I think he figured he would be able to turn Spence and make him over extend himself and then land his own counters, particularly his straight right down the pipe. Thought he would be able to frustrate Spence enough to pick off rounds and win a decision. Also figured that Spence doesn't move his head enough so he would be able to land his fair share of shots. What he didn't account for was how well Spence manages distance and his footwork. Spence was able to get his offense going and was able to use his footwork to get out of harms way when Mikey would try to answer back. Mikey probably underestimated just how hard Spence's jab was and didn't think he would try to out box him from the outside. Even Robert's son Pita said after the fight that we expected Spence to come to Mikey and just try to bulldoze him. Miscalculated risk but at least he went the full 12?Comment

the last couple of posts are pretty near the mark, here is my two cents.
I think Mikey expected and PLANNED on Spence coming in like a bulldozer so he could backstep and counter him then turn him and counter him. Give credit to Spence's team for not falling for the trap and forcing Mikey to improvise his gameplan WHICH HE WASN'T READY TO DO OR PLANNED ON. plain and simple. This is why it is hard to be GREAT, you have to have a rare skill-set.Comment

Mikey "saw", heard, and felt those punches. Even when they landed on the gloves the sound it made was crazy. Spence reminds me of Tito Trinidad with the snap of his punches. But much respect to Mikey for stepping up.Comment
