Spence vs Garcia really highlights how important footwork is to a fighter

Yea boring thread on deck but anyone whos ever fought understand this. It was spence's jab and his power yea, but the footwork and maintaining his distance, his patience and knowing when to move is what impressed me tonight. Garcia couldnt close the distance nor could he feint his way inside because Spence ability to move, cut off the ring when needed and his uncanny ring generalship kept the fight at a PERFECT distance to complete neutralize everything Garcia had to offer. The timed body attack in the second half of the fight, but also especially on the inside in the phone booth where Spence pushed off, rotated and continued to pick his shots, there was no real accessable pattern for garcia to work off of. Fight was just a beautiful combination of intelligence and action, Garcia's chin is what kept him up.

I feel like the footwork aspect of the fight cant be overlooked at all

Thank you for this thread. I said it for the past 2 years. Mikey always likes guys to come straight at him and if he fights a guy with nimble feet he is in trouble. It is the same reason I picked him to lose against Loma. Mikey will not fight a guy who can give angles. He thought Spence would come right at him and he could pick and counter. Spence though used his legs, came in via Mikey's sides, did his work and then move out. When Mikey tried to rush back in, Spence would just step back. Mikey showed how slow his foot speed is. Everyone would brag about Mikey's timing, but they just did not see how he needs a guy in a certain strike zone to do anything.

I told everyone here for ages that Mikey has always fought a certain type of opponent, they thought it was all a coincidence. He thought Spence would come rushing straight in also swinging wide hooks LOL.

Yeah Spence's footwork isn't quick, but it's really intelligent. He and GGG cut the ring off better than anybody in boxing. He's always in position to punch and defend, and knows how to use angles. His control of distance is ace also.

That's actually the first thing I noticed about Spence. I always knew he was great on the front foot, but the way he was elusive with his footwork and rotations was what impressed me the most.

first of all good to see you as you changed your avi, secondly i made this thread because i saw a littany of "MIKEY GARCIA WAS ROBBED" threads and other disgusting garbage on here. i didint even think anyone would even respond.

Spence's step back was just beautiful, Mikey tried to weave and create a way inside and he just couldnt get to him. Even on the inside Garcia seemed to have very little for him. Yea the fight was at 147 but even at lightweight, it wouldnt have been any different. there is no shame to losing to Spence like that, spence is just that good.

Ha the only dude saying Mikey was robbed is that G G G dude who is literally non stop troll... in fact he's so OTT I remain unsure whether it's a parody account meant to poke fun at other Golovkin fans.

With regards to Mikey and Spence this was very much what I saw and I've said as much elsewhere..folk criticising Mikey for not going out on his shield don't really know what they were seeing - he tried, he tried a few times...and all it got him was punished. It's one thing to take a risk when it has a chance of success, another when it's not achieving anything. After the first few rounds I think Mikey realised there was no route to victory there, unless somehow Errol got sloppy or could be coaxed into a mistake, but Spence is both disciplined and patient.
