Castillo ruined what could have been the greatest rubbermatch of all time. He's so cool. My idol.

CASTILLO - CORRALES 3: HATE THE GAME, NOT THE PLAYER
          By Aladdin Freeman

"I know the popular trend is to bash Jose Luis Castillo for not making weight but that isn’t right. I’ve been reading all the stories, “the fight fans are the big losers” or “Nevada should come up with a fine for Castillo” or my favorite one of all, “Castillo has given boxing a black eye”…you've got to be kidding me. Damn, I forgot about all the bad decisions over the years, all the fights that have lead to deaths, Mike Tyson getting mad media coverage that he didn’t deserve, yet Castillo not making weight has given boxing a black eye.

Let me break it down for those of you who don’t know. For at least three years Jose Luis Castillo has been saying that he has been having trouble making the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. Did you all see the weigh in? Castillo was skin and bones, he could barely stand up when they asked him to step up tp the scale…He comes in at 140 pounds and 2-1/2 hours later he loses 5 pounds. There was nothing left for him to take off, period. What would have happened had Castillo made weight and then died from making weight and fighting? People would have said what a tragedy it was and he died from “complications” but not making weight would have not been mentioned. Funny that all everyone in Las Vegas can talk about is all the money they lost out on, and when safety does come up, it’s about Corrales and the fact that his safety would have been at risk had they decided to go on with the fight. If Las Vegas is that short sighted that they end up fining and suspending Castillo for not making weight, he should never fight out there again.

For some reason Bob Arum has routinely made fights for Castillo at 135 pounds, who knows why? Maybe Arum wanted to have a great fighter or cash cows in every division from Jr. Lightweight through Welterweight in Erik Morales, Castillo and Floyd Mayweather. What I do fine funny is Bob Arum going on record as saying he’s “disgusted and embarrassed by Castillo” for not making weight. Arum went as far as to say “it would take Castillo a long time to re-establish credibility in the sport.” Way to stick by your fighter Bob; in fact I hope every fighter you represent heard your dumb ass make such a statement.

Fighters literally kill themselves to make weight and fight…it’s common place for fighters to drop 20 pounds to make weight and then put it all back on the night leading up to the fight. Hell, if they did same day weigh-ins, many fighters would be in different weight divisions. In fact, every time HBO has a telecast they tell you what the fighter is weighing that night, which usually is one or two divisions higher than what they contracted for and weighed in at. For being a major boxing promoter Bob Arum, he has made some pretty ridiculous remarks about the sport. I am sure Castillo has made Arum a ton of cash and had some huge fights. A fighter that Arum had went on record as saying “Castillo deserved better from the judges” in his first fight vs. Mayweather Jr. A few years later because Castillo fails to make weight and cost Arum some cash, this is how he gets treated. Mind you Floyd Mayweather Jr. has gone up 2 divisions in a couple years and Castillo is bigger than him at walking around weight.

Also Bob, I’m sure that most Castillo fight fans are still sticking by their guy unlike yourself and he hasn’t made them any money. Plus Bob, one big devastating knock out of Miguel Cotto and those fans who are mad and jumping ship like you, will likely jump back on Castillo’s band wagon. With all this finger pointing going on, not enough attention is being directed at the WBC officials who supposedly had to monitor Castillo’s weight issue over the last two months. If they knew he wasn’t going to make weight, something should have been said before Friday’s weigh in. Jose Luis Castillo should also take a hit. After all he didn’t make weight, but what else was he going to take off? He should have stuck to his guns, told his promoter to make the fight at 140 pounds if the Corrales camp wanted it that bad, if not, he should have moved on.

Overall boxing is very hard to predict but I think Castillo actually helped save Corrales for at least another big fight with someone else not named Jose Luis Castillo… in two fights with Castillo it’s been a bad match up stylistically for Diego. He’s taken a serious beating in both fights, the kind that most fighters in boxing don't fully recover from. Maybe, just maybe, this was a blessing in the long run for Diego Corrales. Yeah, it sucks to lose out on roughly $1.2 million dollars but I’m sure all will agree with me that having your health is much more important.

Diego Corrales should stay at lightweight and defend his title for as long as he can, Jose Luis Castillo should go up to 140 pounds and fight either Miguel Cotto or Ricky Hatton. As for the fans, yes, we did miss out on the ending chapter of an epic trilogy. But the future will bring us others."

i am ******er for having read that article. those are some of the worst and poorly thought out excuses i have ever heard.

If he lost an extra five pounds, he would have died in the ring? wtf?!?!?!?
-If he knew that he couldnt make the weight, why take the fight, and spend 8 weeks training ur ass off for it.

Bob Arun said those things because he was disgusted with his guy. He had every right to say what he said

The WBC officials would have liked to do their job, but they were constantly avoided and lied to by the castillo camp

The rest of the article is pretty good, but the rest is crap. who wrote this?
