Safe exercises with a rib injury

    Hi All,

I got a rib injury (soft tissue) whilst sparring some weeks ago and it hasnt been going away so I am now resting it for a few weeks until it goes away. However, I would like to know what exercises I could do that will not hinder the recovery process.

I have found that my 121 training sessions with a boxing trainer (without sparring) aggravate the injury a lot - so clearly its not just a question of avoiding sparring.

I want to maintain fitness and strength as much as possible.

Try re-posting this is the training and nutrition forum, man, or ask one of the mods to move it. Thing I'd say first is if it's gone on more than a few weeks have you been to a doctor to confirm it is just a straightforward soft tissue injury?

Let it heal. You don't want to **** something else up in the process.

OK thanks I will do that. And, yes I have and they suggest it is just ligament damage.

Dealing with that kind of pain can be tough. When it comes to exercising with a rib injury, it's crucial to listen to your body and not push yourself too hard. Low-impact exercises like walking, gentle yoga, or swimming can be good options as they don't put too much strain on your ribs. Avoid activities that involve twisting or sudden movements that could aggravate your injury.
Also, it might be a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise routine to ensure it's safe for you. They can give you personalized advice based on your specific injury.

              1. **Walking**: A brisk walk can help maintain cardiovascular fitness without putting strain on your ribs.
              2. **Swimming**: Swimming is a fantastic full-body workout that is gentle on the ribs due to the buoyancy of the water.
              3. **Stationary Cycling**: Cycling is a low-impact exercise that can help maintain leg strength and cardiovascular fitness without aggravating your injury.
              4. **Yoga**: Gentle yoga poses can help maintain flexibility and strengthen muscles without putting too much strain on your ribs.
