Comments Thread For: Dmitry Bivol Dominates With An Appreciation For His Craft

By Corey Erdman - VERONA, NY-Most fighters are schooled in communicating the fact that they're confident, but few exude it effortlessly the way Dmitry Bivol does. Walking around the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY the day before his WBA light heavyweight title defense against Joe Smith, Bivol ha...

No more waiting Corey. That's promoter talk, not what the fans or Bivol wants. Like Bivol said, he is 28. If not now, when? They've been talking about a big fight for the last two years. If not now, when? In another two years? Or maybe when Bivol is 35, like GGG, and past his prime?

No. The time is now. Looking forward to a Bivol legacy fight in the summer, vs a top opponent, and no BS about different networks is going to change my expectation. Don't the same five or ten rich guys own all the different networks and streaming companies anyway? So it's all the same. Those are just excuses not to make fights that fans want to see. Fans aren't buying it. It's like saying Iron Man can't be in the Captain America movies because they're different movies. Yeah, but they're made by the same company, which is owned and run by the same people, so actually, he can be in any Captain America movie they want him to be.

It's the same with boxing. Cross promotional fights happen whenever the corporate guys want them too. Well, please stop only wanting them to when there's tens of millions of dollars to make, and start wanting them for the fans and the sport too, even if there is only 1 dollar to make for you (but still enough for the fighters).

Enough excuses. Enough bull****. Enough greed. Not every fight has to be an epic huge earner. Some can just be great fights for the fans and great paydays for the fighters, but small earners, or just break even fights, for the corporate guys, but with the biggest potential to set up even bigger money opportunities for everyone, this time including the corporate guys, in the future.

For example, 175 needs a reliable cash cow to start raking in the REAL money for everyone there, someone who can be relied to perform, and sell tickets, for the next 5+ years.

Bivol is 28 years old. He's got the most skill in the division. If he can bulk up his neck muscles a bit to be more sturdy in there, he can be that guy to win every fight and keep the momentum going and the money coming in for years. He's one of the best looking boxers in the world (no ****), he's got a personality with similar crossover appeal that GGG's had...

He's a great bet to be that guy. So make Canelo vs Bivol next in a weight class where it's fair but Bivol wont be drained, hope Bivol wins, and pass that torch to Bivol to be the Russian Canelo at 175, meanwhile Canelo can say he was too small and move back to 160 or 168 and go back to being the #1 guy there after GGG retires or continues to slide.

Or if Canelo's not available, take the immediate financial for some other big passing of the torch fight, or star making fight, in order to set up Bivol as the money man in the division for the next 5 years.

That's the problem with these corporate guys in boxing. If the immediate next fight doesnt make them big money, they seem uninterested. Absolutely no foresight or vision for the future in terms of, "yeah we might not make big money in this fight, but Bivol will be favored to win, and if he does, it sets us up to make big money the next five YEARS."

Where is that forward thinking? In any case, fans are sick of waiting. So is Bivol. Hopefully he leaves Main Events and Hearn and DAZN if they can't deliver a big fight for the summer.

Looks like he’s the man at 175, maybe even 168. A non-knock star. Another twist on boxing.

Chilemba, Barrera, Smith Jr., and Pascal are not anybody of note? Do you even watch boxing to spew bull**** like this?

Bivol's footwork is the main thing that stands out to me. He's always in good position to hit the other guy and not get hit himself.

Chilemba coming off two years layoff (and that was a close fight, 8.4). Pascal way past his prime. Smith the lost limited fighter. Sully 37, injuried in that fight and rumour has it that Bivol was a on ped as he refused to get tested for 4 weeks.

Other than Gvozdyk, who has really outclassed Chilemba? Even Kovalev dropped 4 rounds to him. Not to mention he fought a virtually a draw with Alvarez. Some bum, right? Barrera is still a very good win but yeah he is definitely short of elite. Pascal and Smith Jr. are far from elite but they are very dangerous. I still insist that dismissing Bivol's wins is disrespectful.
