Comments Thread For: Porter: Spence, Pacquiao or Thurman - The Goal For Next Fight!

Try to tell Shawn Porter that some risks just aren't worth the reward, and he will respond in kind that such a way of thinking has no place in the pro ranks. The two-time welterweight titlist from Ohio has proven that throughout his career, willingly accepting the tough challenges that few of his divisional peers seem in a hurry to grab. As much is evident in the first defense of his second tour as a welterweight champ, when he defends versus Yordenis Ugas in their March 9 Fox headliner in Carson, California.

Porter having problems with the weight makes me think of an Ugas win that gets converted into a Shawn-saving controversial draw.

I put some money on this result.

If Spence Jr. can win that WBC Diamond Belt, that should make a WBC/IBF unification fight easier to make! Hopefully Pacquiao chooses Thurman, so there's only one WW champion for the WBA! I'm still surprised that Bob Arum hasn't forced a purse bid for Bes***** to get a shot at Pacquiao or Thurman?

Porter mentions Spence's name when he has a fight scheduled. If he doesn't, he says he is "going a different direction, or he already had that belt."

As far as Ugas winning, I wish he would have fought someone better than Cesar Miguel Barrionuevo (who?) to prepare for Porter. I see Porter winning a 115-113 or 116-112 type decision.

Porter hasn't been willing to take a risk against Spence. Just like all the other top welterweights.
