Did Floyd Mayweather duck Winky Wright? Please chime in.

So I've been watching quite a bit of Winky fights and the dude was damn good. A very high workrate and a high guard.

I've been hearing that this fight was almost a done deal. So what happened?

Yup, Floyd also ducked Cotto when he was undefeated and Shane Mosley in their prime. He also ducked Margarito when he was beasting.

He also used a catchweight of 152 against a green Clenelo, Clenelo couldnt even make 154 for the next fight (155).

He forced Maidana to use foam gloves as opposed to the normal punchers gloves with horse hair. (Everlast Powerlock instead of the MX)

He fought Pacquiao 5 years after his prime when he was a freak.

He fought Cotto after Pacquiao and Margarito had battered him

He fought an old 40 year old Mosley instead of the one in the mid 2000s.

He bloated up Marquez two divisions for his first fight at WW and cheated him on the scales by coming in overweight by 2 pounds over the original agreement. He paid JM for that. Marquez didnt have Memo for this and just ate his way to WW.

The only fighters he fought in the prime were Victor Ortiz and Tenshin.

It’s a little more complicated then that. They actually negotiated and almost had a deal but at the last minute Arum tried to change the purse split from 50/50 to 55/45 and Dibella said no so Arum walked.

Actually, it was Mayweather who demanded the 55/45 split after they had already agreed to 50/50, Arum was just the messenger. Typical Floyd moving the goal post.

"M-O-N-E-Y," stated Shaw in spelling out the reason why this bout between two of the premier prizefighters in the world will not be taking place. "I thought we had a deal. I spoke with Don King, King was on board, Jim Wilkes was on board, Winky Wright was on board. We agreed to 154 pounds, we agreed to another morning weight because they were concerned about the weight -- Winky couldn't gain more than eight pounds above 154."

With all of Winky's representatives (including King, who holds an option on Wright after his victory over Felix Trinidad in May) in agreement, Shaw thought he would be signing contracts by the end of the week.

"When I was in Arum's office he talked about different splits," recalled Shaw, who said at that time the numbers he was told differed from the ones he had agreed to. "I started to yell, I said, 'It's gotta be 50-50.' He said, 'All right, all right. Why are you yelling? I'm just the messenger. Come back, we'll do the deal.' I walked downstairs here at the Beverly Hills Hotel, I said, 'We have a deal?' He looked at me and said, '55-45.' I said, 'No, 50-50. He said, 'There's no deal.' "

Arum confirmed that Wright-Mayweather is dead as of now.

"There were requests made by Floyd Mayweather, we laid it out and I think they were fair requests," said the veteran promoter. "Gary rejected them, so there's no fight. We have to sit with Floyd and we'll figure out [what we do next].

Did Mayweather and Arum come to the realization that in facing the much bigger Wright, that they were biting off more than even the "Pretty Boy" could chew?

"Floyd's been talking a lot of trash, saying he's going to knock Winky out; he told Kevin Iole he wants to fight," said Shaw. "He wanted the fight on Sunday. On Monday I went to Top Rank's office personally. My feeling is that Floyd never wanted the fight. He was just talking smack."

If i remember currently Winky had issues with the weight clause, back in those days i use to read boxing talk, and there was an interview there that Winky gave in regards to Mayweather trying to restrict his fight night weight.

All of this is true! Floyd never fought anyone he didn't have an advantage on.

I guess it would depend on what the money offer to Mayweather was if you want to know if he ducked the fight or not. The fight was close to being done when Mayweather called it off. Winky wanted the fight of course. Mayweather was a big money fight for him.
