    from the sweet science
James “Lights Out” Toney cruising for bruising in L.A.

Just got back from the James Toney presser. Sat at the same table as David Avila. As you’d imagine with Toney, it turned into chaos when Dino Duva pressed the wrong button. He called James ******. Toney had to be restrained. Duva’s team shouted angrily (if a little hollowly), with Sam Peter looking perplexed, but were careful not to make a move toward Toney, who was barely contained by his entourage. It could have been right out of the presser playbook, but it didn’t look like James was playing.

Suddenly, danger was in the air. James threw a glass at the Duva team — Lots of scuffling. James’s team, with all the effort they could muster, dragged him away, cursing and yelling he was going to wait for them outside the Palm.

He did, fuming and pacing, shouting what he was going to do to all of them when they came out the door. He waited and waited. They never showed — must have found another exit.

You’ll all be proud to know, David Avila did TSS proud: He never lost his aplomb throughout.

              Tempers Erupt at Toney-Peter Presser

If the fight is even remotely as entertaining and exciting as the press conference, fans are in for The Fight of the Year Saturday, Sept. 2, when world-ranked heavyweights James “Lights Out” Toney (69-4-2, 43 KOs) and Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare’’ Peter (26-1, 22 KOs) collide in a 12-round World Boxing Council (WBC) elimination bout at STAPLES Center on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast). Toney is ranked No. 2 in the WBC, one notch above Peter. [details]

Toney is the best trash talker in his game, there is no one come close to (maybe Mayorga).

Toney looks trim in this shot. I had read he's been training for a while to cut weight, and it looks like he's already in better shape than he was for the Rahman fight.
